General Electric – GE Investments in Offshore Wind Power

According to Maurício Vieira, Wind sales director at Ge Renewable Energy, General Electric is eyeing the offshore wind energy sector. He claims that the offshore wind sector is a GE strategy and that the company is a leader in this segment.

GE has a 13 MW platform, with a rotor of around 220 meters. Not to mention some contracts that were announced for the United States and European countries. In Brazil, the company is ready to offer the technology in offshore wind energy, but, so far, the company has not been sued.

The executive claims that General Electric's investments in offshore wind energy for Brazil will come, but it is not known whether it will be at the same speed as in other countries.

Words from the commercial leader of the Grid Solutions division

According to Gilton Peixoto, Commercial leader of the Grid Solutions Division, in addition to generating electricity through offshore wind energy, it will be necessary to transmit it to the coast. In addition, he pointed out that GE also has this type of technology.

Generally, it is a transmission made in HVDC (high voltage direct current) through VSC (Voltage Source Converter) technology. This year, another project was contemplated by General Electric, in the United Kingdom.

The offshore wind power project was named Sofia, which connected 1.320 MW off the coasts of Northern England. The project is located 220 km from the coast and is also connected to GE's HDVC-VSC technology. According to Peixoto, the company is eager to bring these investments to Brazil.

GE's investments in Brazil

Starting with the Natural Gas market, the executive director of General Electric Gas Power Latin America, Daniel Meniuk, says that the company is already seeing more movement in the sector and also believes that in the next two years, new thermal power plants will be built in the interior from Brazil.

The president of Hydro at GE Renewable Energy, Eduardo Cardoso, says that the company is also seeing great potential in Brazil for medium-sized hydroelectric plants. He points out that they do not have a large environmental impact and are closer to the load center.
