Siemens Energy announced this morning (08/04) that it has received a contract from Keppel Offshore & Marine to supply the topside turbomachinery package for the floating production, storage, and offloading vessel (FPSO) P-78. The FPSO, which is owned by Petrobras, will also be operated by the company, in partnership with Chinese companies CNOOC and CNODC in the Búzios Field, in the Santos Basin, located approximately 200 kilometers off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, at water depths ranging from 1,600 – 2,100 meters (5,249 – 6,890 feet).

Siemens Energy Will Supply Power Generation and Compression Packages for the FPSO-78, Operated by Petrobras

The scope of supply from Siemens Energy for the project includes the power generation and compression packages for the installation, including main gas, export gas, and injection gas, as well as CO2 injection compressors.

Power supply will be provided through four gas turbine packages. The compression of the main gas, export gas, and injection gas will be handled by eight trains of electric motor-driven compressors. Additionally, two additional trains with aeroderivative gas turbines, which will drive centrifugal compressors, will be used for CO2 reinjection back into the reservoir. Once completed, the P-78 will have a processing capacity of 180,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd) and 7.2 million cubic meters of gas per day (mmscfd).

Siemens Energy’s ability to meet local content requirements for the project, through its manufacturing and assembly facilities in Santa Bárbara d’Oeste, São Paulo, was a valuable consideration in the execution plan. The facility was commissioned in 2013 and has played a critical role in meeting local content mandates established by the National Agency of Petroleum (ANP) in several major oil and gas development projects in South America.

“We are proud to support Brazil’s efforts to promote the use of local content in the offshore hydrocarbon sector,” said Thorbjörn Fors, Executive Vice President of Industrial Applications at Siemens Energy. “The selected equipment packages for the FPSO P-78 will enable Petrobras to efficiently and sustainably explore the reserves of the Búzios Field. Additionally, the awarding of the contract is another example of our growing presence in the region as a preferred supplier of rotating equipment for the offshore FPSO market.”

The delivery of the equipment is scheduled for 2023. The FPSO P-78 is expected to start operations in 2025.
