Petrobras, one of the largest oil companies in the world, announced last Friday (04/01) that it has discovered a new oil accumulation in the pre-salt region of the southern Campos Basin, in a pioneering well in the Alto de Cabo Frio Central block.
According to Petrobras, the well 1-BRSA-1383A-RJS (Alto de Cabo Frio Central Northwest) is located 230 km from the city of Rio de Janeiro-RJ, in a water depth of 1,833 meters.
“The oil-bearing interval was confirmed through electrical profiles and oil samples, which will subsequently be characterized through laboratory analyses. The consortium will continue drilling operations of the well to the originally planned final depth, aiming to evaluate the dimensions of the new accumulation, as well as to characterize the quality of the fluids and reservoirs identified”, said Petrobras in the statement.

The result is the outcome of a successful consortium strategy based on maximizing data utilization and applying new technological solutions in Big Data and Artificial Intelligence, enhanced by the use of supercomputers and High-Performance Computing (HPC) resources, enabling real-time data processing and allowing for agile and secure decision-making.
The Alto de Cabo Frio Central block was acquired in October 2017, in the 3rd bidding round of the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), under the Production Sharing regime, with Pré-Sal Petróleo S.A. (PPSA) as the manager.
