New Giant Ship from BYD Arrives in Brazil with Thousands of Sustainable Cars from the Brand. Called Explorer Ship No. 1, the Giant Can Transport Up to 7 Thousand Vehicles at once.
The Explorer Ship No. 1, the gigantic ship from BYD, docked in Brazil last week, bringing shipments of vehicles from the brand that will be sold in the Brazilian market, one of the company’s top global priorities. The arrival of the BYD ship took place at the Governor Eraldo Gueiros Port Complex, better known as Port of Suape, located in the metropolitan region of Recife, in the state of Pernambuco.

The giant ship from BYD measures 199.9 meters in length and has the capacity to transport up to 7 thousand vehicles. Inaugurated at the port of Yantai, in Shandong province, in China, in January of this year, the BYD ship had already made some trips previously, but it had not yet traveled to South America.
As such, the Explorer 1 ship features a relatively new dual-fuel system. In practice, this means it is powered by traditional fuel, which typically includes marine fuels or marine diesel and also liquefied natural gas (LNG).

With a length of 225 meters and a capacity of 76 thousand tons, this ship “sinks” its own deck down to 28 meters deep to accommodate war destroyers, oil platforms, and giant radars floating above, and then emerges with everything intact on top like a colossal tray crossing oceans.
This is just the first step in an ambitious plan by the Chinese sustainable car brand to leverage its logistics operations with a fleet of its own ships. According to a statement from BYD itself, there are plans to make its vessels available to third-party companies, allowing the transportation of cargo to all regions of the world.
BYD Comments on the Arrival of Its Ship
In an official statement, BYD highlighted the successful launch of its ship, considering it an essential step for the company’s expansion into foreign markets. In line with its collaborative spirit, the company plans not only to use these ships for its own activities but also to engage in open partnerships, ushering in a new era for Chinese manufacturers on the international stage.
Subsequently, in the near future, the multinational expects to put into operation eight more similar vessels, which are still under development. All cargo ships are expected to be sustainable and delivered equipped with a system featuring a battery developed with proprietary technology.
BYD has already registered over 25.5 thousand units in just the first five months of the year in Brazil, a 43% increase compared to the total registrations of 2023. In April, the brand became the ninth car manufacturer with the most registered cars in Brazil, according to data from Fenabrave. This growth reflects the high consumer demand for electric and hybrid vehicles, aligned with Brazil’s clean energy matrix.
BYD Maintains Global Leadership and Continues to Expand
Alexandry Baldy, special advisor to BYD, emphasized that Brazil is currently the largest market for BYD outside Asia. He mentioned that the construction of the BYD factory in Camaçari, Bahia, is progressing rapidly, with plans to assemble cars starting at the end of this year and local vehicle production beginning next year.
BYD maintains its leadership in the Chinese vehicle market, even surpassing sales of combustion cars. In April, BYD’s passenger car sales in China grew by 49% compared to the previous year, with an impressive increase of 626.4% in sales between 2030 and 2023.
