Announced by Jorginho Mello on the 100 Years of Criciúma, the package of R$ 240 million for Criciúma brings works on bridges, an elevated structure, 8 health units, 135 streets and expands the São Defende water station, raising total investments to almost R$ 300 million in urban infrastructure and basic health.

Announced by Governor Jorginho Mello during his agenda in the municipality, the R$ 240 million package for Criciúma will fund bridges, a new elevated structure, eight new health posts and a series of structuring works that add to resources already released between 2023 and 2024 by the State Government.

With the new announcement, investments in Criciúma are approaching R$ 300 million, in a move that marks the centenary of the political-administrative emancipation of the city, celebrated on November 4th, and promises to change the urban mobility scenario, health care, water supply and basic sanitation.

R$ 60 Million in Bridges, Elevated Structure and New Road Connections

In road infrastructure, the package focuses on R$ 60 million in mobility works. The government will finance the construction of an elevated structure in the Pio Corrêa neighborhood, bridges on the Luiz Rosso highway, and a trench with an elevated structure in the Rio Maina neighborhood, creating new connections and reducing traffic bottlenecks in strategic points of the city.

Of this amount, R$ 30 million comes from resources returned by the Legislative Assembly, referring to the unused duodecimo by the deputies which returns to the public coffers for direct investment in the population, according to the State Government.

Another R$ 15 million will be used for the revitalization of the Otávio Dassoler and Antônio Darós highways, important corridors for urban and regional traffic.

When presenting the package, Jorginho Mello emphasized that the 100 years of Criciúma is a milestone to strengthen the partnership with the municipality and support projects advocated by Mayor Vaguinho Espíndola.

For the municipal administration, the R$ 240 million package for Criciúma comes as an “anniversary present”, with the potential to transform the local road network.

Eight New Health Posts in Diverse Neighborhoods

In the health sector, the highlight is the construction of eight Basic Health Units in different regions of the city.

The new posts will serve the neighborhoods Próspera, Vila Belmiro, Paraíso, Vila Francesa, Santo Antônio, Renascer, Vila Manias and Operária Nova, expanding primary care coverage.

The expectation of the city hall is that the distribution of the units will reduce movements, bring doctors and teams closer to the population and alleviate the pressure on already existing structures.

Within the R$ 240 million package for Criciúma, the expansion of the basic health network is treated as one of the central points to improve daily care for the community.

Treated Water, Sewage and Asphalt in 135 Streets

Another relevant front of the announcement involves water, sewage and paving. The State Government, in partnership with Casan, has guaranteed R$ 91 million in investments for Criciúma.

The largest share, R$ 60 million, will be applied to the expansion of the São Defende Water Treatment Station, reinforcing the supply capacity to keep up with the city’s growth.

Additionally, a partnership worth R$ 30 million was signed to recover the asphalt in 135 streets that will receive works to expand the sewage collection network.

In practice, the strategy is to synchronize sanitation and paving, avoiding the cycle of breaking and patching of roads and delivering streets already requalified after the interventions in the sewage network.

Thus, the R$ 240 million package for Criciúma is not limited to large visible works but also acts on essential underground infrastructure, reducing losses, preventing future problems, and raising the standard of urban services.

Technical Education and Hospital Are Included in the Works Package

The governor’s visit to Criciúma also included an agenda focused on education and the hospital sector. At Satc, the foundation stone was laid for the construction of 21 new classrooms, expanding the technical and vocational education structure of the municipality.

The itinerary also included visits to the Governor Heriberto Hülse school and Acic (Criciúma Business Association), reinforcing dialogue with the productive sector.

In the field of specialized health, the act in Criciúma brought authorization for a new contract with the São José Hospital, as well as the start of renovation and expansion works for the unit.

The expectation is to strengthen the hospital care that serves as a reference in the region, in sync with the expansion of basic care made possible by the eight new health posts.

With the set of actions, the state government and the city hall are trying to show that the R$ 240 million package for Criciúma combines mobility, health, sanitation, and education in a single public investment plan.

For you, does the R$ 240 million package for Criciúma really address the main infrastructure problems in the city or does it still leave any urgent point out of this historic investment?
