Luciano Hang says he returned to the region of Juiz de Fora after the tragedy at the end of February to see the situation up close, follow the destination of donations, and direct help to those who need it most, with the support of local entities.

Luciano Hang reveals the intention to monitor on-site how the money will be distributed and states that he brought R$ 1 million to the region, repeating a model of aid that he claims to have applied in the South: visiting the affected areas, listening to stories, and delivering resources immediately.

He also states that the region is hilly and that when a lot of rain falls, the situation tends to worsen with flooding and landslides. About 15 to 20 days after the incident, he reports that he decided to go to the affected areas to understand what remained after the waters receded and where the need is most pressing.

Luciano Hang begins help for affected employees

Luciano Hang states that the first focus was to help employees of his own network in the region. He mentions seven employees who lost their homes or lost everything inside their homes and says he delivered a R$ 2,000 card for immediate purchases.

Additionally, Luciano Hang states that he donated R$ 15,000 to each of these employees, in cash deposited into their accounts, with the idea of giving a first boost to “get their lives back on track” and resume the basics.

R$ 2,000 cards and immediate support to start over

During the deliveries, Luciano Hang emphasizes that the R$ 2,000 card would be for urgent needs, such as clothing, bedding, and essential purchases.

He highlights the emotional impact of the help and says that seeing the reaction of those receiving it shows the magnitude of what it means to rebuild when a person has lost everything.

At different moments, Luciano Hang insists on a logic: giving a little to many, instead of concentrating large amounts on a few people. He claims that this strategy increases the reach and allows support for more families.

Donations with entities and focus on displaced families

Luciano Hang reports that he began working with Rotary, Lions, and the Evangelical Alliance to visit affected neighborhoods in Juiz de Fora and also monitor actions in other cities in the region, such as Ubá and Matias Barbosa.

He states that, with the support of these entities, he allocated R$ 10,000 to registered families and distributed R$ 2,000 cards for immediate purchases, reinforcing that money alone does not solve everything, but it restores hope when a person is without options.

Reports of losses and closed neighborhoods after the landslide

In meetings with residents, reports emerge of closed houses, streets that have collapsed, and slopes that have fallen, as well as people saying they cannot return to retrieve belongings.

Luciano Hang mentions that the tragedy involved dozens of deaths and cites cases of families who lost several relatives.

Amid the reports, he insists that the problem does not end when the water recedes, because it is after that when the hardest phase begins: where to live, how to recover furniture, how to deal with closures, and how to resume daily life.

Appeal for more help and demand for local mobilization

Luciano Hang makes a call to businesspeople and residents who are able to help, stating that the region still needs support even when attention diminishes.

He argues that local entities have the knowledge to direct resources and that the sum of small helps can make a difference.

He also emphasizes that donating time and work is valuable, citing examples of people who helped in other tragedies and later were affected, advocating that solidarity needs to circulate to sustain the reconstruction.

Do you think that actions like those of Luciano Hang, with immediate cards and direct donations, work better than just waiting for the public authorities, or would another model of help be ideal?
