The Current ID Will No Longer Be Valid in 2032, and All Brazilians Will Have to Migrate to the National Identity Card (CIN), Which Will Use the CPF as a Unique Identification Number.
The current General Registry (RG) will no longer be valid as of 2032, and all Brazilians will need to migrate to the National Identity Card (CIN). The measure aims to unify documentation under a single number, the CPF, eliminating discrepancies between states and increasing security against fraud.
According to the Ministry of Management and Innovation in Public Services, the CIN represents a structural change in the civil identification system, bringing greater reliability to citizens’ information and simplifying bureaucratic processes.
What Changes with the National Identity Card
The main change is the unification of documents: the CPF will be the official identification number throughout the national territory, replacing different state RG records.
-
A new Brazilian shopping center worth R$ 400 million will be built in an area equivalent to more than 4 football fields, featuring 90 stores, 5 cinemas, a supermarket, a college, and parking for 1,700 cars, potentially generating 3,000 jobs.
-
Larger than entire cities in Brazil: BYD is building a 4.6 km² complex in Bahia with a capacity for 600,000 vehicles per year, but the discovery of 163 workers in conditions analogous to slavery has shaken the entire project.
-
With an investment of R$ 612 million, a capacity to process 1.2 million liters of milk per day, Piracanjuba inaugurates a mega cheese factory that increases national production, reduces dependence on imports, and repositions Brazil on the global dairy map.
-
Brazilian city gains industrial hub for 85 companies that is equivalent to 55 football fields.
This means that, starting in 2032, any document based on the old RG will no longer be valid.
Another advancement is the adoption of antifraud security technologies, such as advanced graphic elements and QR Code for digital verification.
The CIN can also be integrated with other records, such as the CNH and professional documents, making life easier for citizens dealing with multiple registrations.
How to Issue the New Card
The issuance of the National Identity Card will be done at the same agencies that currently issue the RG, such as Detran and state identification institutes. To apply, citizens must:
- Present the CPF, birth certificate or marriage certificate;
- Schedule an appointment in advance through the issuing agency’s system;
- Optionally include supplementary records, such as blood type or health information.
According to the government, the first copy will be free, specifically to encourage public adoption of the new system before the final deadline.
Advantages of the Change
In addition to bureaucratic simplification, the National Identity Card brings important practical benefits:
- Unification of Documents: the CPF becomes the only official code.
- Greater Security: antifraud mechanisms make forgery and misuse of personal data more difficult.
- National Validity: the CIN will be recognized in all states, reducing issues in traveling, competitions, and public and private registrations.
Impact on the Daily Lives of Brazilians
According to FDR, the new document promises to reduce queues, speed up services, and increase the reliability of personal information.
The government’s guidance is for Brazilians not to wait until the last minute and to start issuing their cards as soon as possible, to avoid a backlog of demands close to 2032.
The transition will be gradual but inevitable: after the final deadline, only the CIN will be valid.
For many experts, this is a necessary change to modernize the identification system and align Brazil with international standards for document security.
The National Identity Card is already a reality, and by 2032, all Brazilians will need to migrate to the new model.
The promise is for greater security, practicality, and standardization.
And you, have you issued your new card or do you intend to wait until the deadline? Do you think this change will really simplify citizens’ lives?
