Aiming to Strengthen Ceará’s Presence in the Renewables Market and Expand the Green Hydrogen Hub of the Pecém Complex, the State Government Will Sign Three New Memorandums for Resource Production Projects in the Region.
The Government of the State of Ceará is seeking to expand the green hydrogen hub located in the Pecém Complex and intends to sign three new memorandums for new projects for resource production shortly with companies in the energy sector. By this Friday, (08/05), the state already has 19 agreements signed with major companies in the field and will become even more present in the scenario over the next few years.
New Memorandums of Understanding for Projects in the Green Hydrogen Hub of the Pecém Complex Are Currently Under Negotiation with the Government of Ceará
Even with 19 agreements already signed for the development of green hydrogen production projects in the Pecém Complex hub, the Government of Ceará continues to expand its presence in the sector and intends to sign three new memorandums soon, in addition to another seven that are under negotiation.
The data was announced at the FIEC Green Hydrogen Summit 2022, an event held by the Federation of Industries of the State of Ceará (FIEC), which featured experts and companies from the energy sector focused on this new resource.

The German ship Bottsand splits its hull in two halves in the middle of the ocean to swallow spilled oil on the surface, separating the oil from the water inside a 790 cubic meter tank and then closing again. It is the only ship in the world factory-designed to split in half as part of normal operations, and the crew of six people who operate everything is civilian.

With almost 70 meters in width at the stern and a shape resembling a “giant slice of cheese,” the Ramform Titan tows up to 24 seismic cables to sweep the ocean floor in 3D and reveal oil reserves hidden beneath kilometers of sediment.

With a length of 225 meters and a capacity of 76 thousand tons, this ship “sinks” its own deck down to 28 meters deep to accommodate war destroyers, oil platforms, and giant radars floating above, and then emerges with everything intact on top like a colossal tray crossing oceans.
The state governor, Izolda Cela, commented on the relevance of the Ceará region in the national green hydrogen sector and its prospects for the future of the industry. “We currently have 19 signed memorandums with large companies, these are commitments for business prospecting, for business implementation here, we have three (memorandums) to sign shortly and seven still in negotiation. This shows the vigor of the State (in this segment) and I want to thank the companies for their trust in Ceará,” said the executive during the event.
Moreover, Izolda recalled the importance of the green hydrogen hub installed in the Pecém Complex during the government of Camilo Santana, which has been contributing to the attraction of new companies to the Ceará region.
The growth outlook remains high with the arrival of new memorandums to be signed by the state government and, in addition to the documents, the region already has a prototype of a plant being constructed by EDP and a pre-contract signed with Fortescue, thus ensuring greater acceleration of the growth of the green hydrogen hub.
The State of Ceará Is Ahead of Other National States in Green Hydrogen Production and Continues to Grow with the Arrival of New Memorandums
The rector of the Federal University of Ceará (UFC), Cândido Albuquerque, emphasized the importance of remembering that Ceará is currently ahead of all other Brazilian states regarding green hydrogen projects. With 19 projects underway for the hub of the Pecém Complex. In addition, he stated that UFC has been expanding laboratories and incentives for research and projects aimed at improving resource production.
The state governor further emphasized that, in addition to contributing to the international environmental agenda by reducing environmental impacts, signing new memorandums for resource production will also provide job opportunities for thousands of Ceará residents, thus contributing to the socioeconomic development of the state.
Finally, the president of FIEC, Ricardo Cavalcante, stated that the 19 signed memorandums already total US$ 20 billion to be invested over the next five years in the state, thus ensuring financial security for the continuation of the enterprises.
Now, the Government of Ceará will continue investing in the search for new projects for the Pecém Complex hub, and the next three memorandums will be just part of the expansion plan in the energy sector.
