With Hope to Create 500 New Jobs in Pouso Alegre, Midea Plans to Build New Factory After Drought. The Company Operates in the Home Appliances Industry and Will Invest About R$ 580 Million in This Project.

Midea, one of the largest companies in the home appliances sector worldwide, is just waiting for the end of the drought period to begin construction of its new home appliance factory in the city of Pouso Alegre, Minas Gerais. According to information released so far, the investments in the project will be about R$ 580 million, potentially generating 500 jobs directly in the municipality.

Midea and Its Plans for the New Factory in Minas Gerais and the Creation of New Jobs

The Group announced its arrival in the State of Minas Gerais approximately a year ago, recently receiving approval for its environmental license, necessary for installation in the municipality.

Just like what happened with Heineken Brewery, construction for the factory is authorized, but must wait for the rains to subside.

The space acquired for the construction of the headquarters is 200 thousand square meters, located along the Fernão Dias highway, in the Algodão neighborhood.

The forecast is that the operations will generate 500 jobs in the municipality and the estimated revenue is R$ 700 million.

“The factory will start with the production of washing machines and then refrigerators. They will be closely following Panasonic (which produces the same products in Extrema, also in the southern part of the state),” said a source close to Midea, who requested to remain anonymous.

Founded in 1968, the Midea Group is One of the Largest Home Appliance Manufacturers in the World, with Offices in Over 200 Countries and Nearly 150,000 Employees

Ranked in 2020 by Fortune Global 500, the company is part of the list of the 500 largest companies in the world. It started its business in Brazil as an importer, strengthening its presence in 2011 through a joint venture with Carrier.

Currently, Midea Carrier has the brands Midea, Carrier, Springer, and Toshiba Lifestyle.

According to the company, the Pouso Alegre factory will be its third in Brazil. In its initial announcement, the forecast was that the unit would begin operations still in 2023.

The other company units are located in Amazonas and Rio Grande do Sul. These facilities have a production capacity of over 3 million units of air conditioners from residential and commercial lines.

The factory in Manaus, Amazonas, is responsible for producing air conditioners and microwaves, while the one in Canoas/RS focuses on manufacturing commercial climate control systems.

“In recent years, we have significantly increased our market share by entering various categories of home appliances with imported products; now it is time to invest in local manufacturing to continue growing. Our goal is to be among the top three market players within five years. We are very confident in achieving this goal,” said Felipe Costa, CEO of Midea Carrier, in March 2022, during the announcement of the investment in Minas Gerais.

The CEO of Midea also states that the decision to invest in the construction of a home appliance factory in Pouso Alegre is part of the company’s strategy, which seeks to remain among the largest manufacturers of white goods in the market. Moreover, with the construction, it is expected to generate around 500 jobs for residents of the region.
