Moura Group, a Company Operating in the Market for 65 Years, Announced Million-Dollar Investments to Build Its Factory That Promises to Generate Hundreds of New Jobs.

The Brazilian battery manufacturer, Moura Group, announced an investment of R$ 600 million in its new factory, which will be located in Belo Jardim (PE), with a capacity of 100 thousand tons of lead recycling per year, a material that will be used in the production of new Moura batteries. According to the group, the new factory will have the potential to expand this volume even further in the future, depending on market demand. In addition to new batteries, the unit promises to generate numerous jobs for the municipality.

New Battery Factory Aims to Meet High Demand

With revenues of R$ 2 billion and sales of 10 million batteries in the last year, Moura Group supplies to manufacturers, holding half of the market share, and also to the replacement market. The Group has seven factories that generate thousands of jobs, six of which are located in Brazil and one in Argentina.

There are about 6,000 jobs generated in these units, and currently, for every new battery sold by the company, another used one is returned to the company, being fully recycled in an already existing factory of the group.

The goal of the new factory, besides generating jobs, is to meet growth demands. According to Flávio Bruno, director of metals and sustainability for the company, recycled material is essential for Moura Group’s business, where the metals used in the production process, such as tin and lead, for example, are valuable and have a significant weight in the company’s costs. On the other hand, they also have the advantage of being fully reused. The plastic from the batteries is also recycled by the group.

New Unit Will Start Producing Batteries in 2023

The start of operations for the new unit is scheduled for December of next year, and according to the executive of Moura Group, the project has the flexibility to expand its capacity even further, up to 140,000 tons, if necessary.

The plant will also meet ESG metrics, an English acronym used for good environmental, governance, and social practices, with all energy coming from renewable sources.

Completing 65 years of history in the market, Moura Group is moving forward focusing on the transition in the automotive sector. For the future, Bruno states that the company is preparing for the electrification process of vehicle fleets, with studies even involving hydrogen.

Moura Group Invests R$ 1.6 Billion in Belo Jardim

The investments of R$ 1.6 billion by the company in Belo Jardim were important for the development of the only Brazilian ICT focused exclusively on research related to vehicle electrification and energy storage, the Edson Mororó Moura Technology Institute (ITEMM), a major technological partner of Moura.

ITEMM has among its clients institutions such as CEMIG, ENEL, CPFL, partnerships with major Brazilian universities. Among the various projects of ITEMM, the one that stands out is vehicle electrification in Brazil, which began with the development of the first electric truck in Brazil, and subsequently, with a livelab installed at the Institute, which includes the first electric car charging station installed in Belo Jardim, testing for charging small electric cars was initiated.

Another project that Moura Group has is the Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), generated at ITEMM, which creates significant savings during peak usage, preventing energy interruptions during periods when power generation from wind and solar plants stops, allowing the company to fully recycle batteries, ensuring an integrated and sustainable process with clients.
