Record Appreciation in 2025 Reflects Strength of Paraguayan Economy and Increases Market Interest, with Projections of 4.2% Growth in 2026.

The Paraguayan currency ended 2025 in the spotlight of the financial landscape of Latin America. The guarani recorded the highest appreciation in the region against the dollar and placed Paraguay at the top of the year’s exchange rate performance.

This movement reinforces the perception of a more stable economy, with above-average growth and macroeconomic indicators on a trajectory considered comfortable for the regional context.

What Happened and Why It Caught Attention

The guarani gained 18.5% against the dollar throughout 2025, leading the appreciation ranking among major Latin American currencies.

Other currencies also advanced, but at a slower pace. The Colombian peso rose 16.6% and the Mexican peso gained 15.6% during the same period.

Following that, the Brazilian real and the Uruguayan peso both grew by 12.8%. Meanwhile, the Argentine peso went in the opposite direction, falling 29% against the dollar.

What Sustains the Strength of the Guarani

The currency appreciation often accompanies environments of higher confidence in the economy. Consistent growth, balanced accounts, and controlled inflation tend to create more resilient currencies.

This combination of factors marked Paraguay’s performance throughout  2025, helping to explain why the guarani managed to stand out in a year of significant fluctuations in the region.

The result also reinforces the country as one of the most solid economies on the continent during the period.

How Paraguay’s GDP Stood Out in 2025

Preliminary data from the Central Bank of Paraguay indicates that the country’s GDP grew about 6% in 2025, identified as the largest advance in Latin America.

This figure is above the estimated expansion for Argentina, at 4.5%, and for Peru, at 2.9%.

In Brazil, the growth projection was around 2.4%, below the regional average of 2.7%.

What Changes in Practice for Those Monitoring Exchange Rates and Investments

A currency that strengthens against the dollar alters the relative cost of transactions and influences decisions by companies and agents monitoring the regional market.

The performance of the guarani also increases Paraguay’s visibility on the financial radar, as it combines currency appreciation with GDP growth and signs of stability.

This type of scenario tends to attract attention when the goal is to compare risk and predictability among neighboring economies.

What Are the Projections for 2026

For 2026, the outlook is described as favorable. The Central Bank of Paraguay projects economic growth of 4.2%.

Inflation is indicated to be near 3.5%, keeping the country in a comfortable position within the regional framework.

The estimates are included in the Monetary Policy Report and indicate macroeconomic stability, with a low risk of inflationary pressures or a slowdown in activity.

What Could Happen From Now On

With the combination of the guarani’s appreciation and projections for growth in 2026, Paraguay is likely to remain in the spotlight in regional comparisons.

The behavior of the exchange rate will continue to be central to attention as it reflects expectations about economic activity and inflation, in addition to influencing decisions in the international market.

The reading at the beginning of 2026 is expected to revolve around maintaining this balance, which supported the country’s performance in 2025.

The guarani ended 2025 as the most appreciated currency in Latin America against the dollar, with a rise of 18.5%. The result reinforces the strength of the Paraguayan economy in a year of great contrast among currencies in the region.

For 2026, the projections of 4.2% growth and inflation near 3.5% keep Paraguay in a comfortable position, showing signs of continued macroeconomic stability.

Real está péssimo, está a 1.180 por guarani. Para quem ganha em reais e tem que comprar guaranies, é muito difícil!!!

Bem simples, aqui o governo pró China e Rússia, condena e culpa o rico e a riqueza como o maior problema do Brasil. Algo nunca visto em nenhuma civilização.
No velho Paraguai, a riqueza ainda é um objetivo daquela honrada nação.
