7-Seater SUV Bets on Chassis, Diesel Engine, Luxury Package, and Off-Road Features to Compete with Toyota SW4, Trailblazer, and Pajero
The Haval H9 2026 was unveiled by GWM, in its debut version for the Brazilian market. With a 2.4 turbo diesel engine producing 186 hp, a 9-speed automatic transmission, 4×4 traction with two locks, and an 80-liter tank, the model arrives to compete in the large diesel SUV segment.
According to specialist Stanley Ravagnani, who analyzed the vehicle in detail, the H9 combines luxury and robustness in a package that is hard to find in Brazil: high-definition 360° camera, retractable electric step, ventilated seats even in the second row, panoramic sunroof, and a complete package of assistance (ADAS).

The Haval H9 2026 measures 4.95 m in length, almost the size of a medium pickup.

How Much It Delivers in Engine and Performance
The mechanical set is one of the strong points.
The 2.4 turbo diesel engine generates 186 hp and 48.9 kgm, coupled with a 9-speed automatic transmission, with 4×4 traction and low range.
The system allows for locking of both the front and rear differentials, something rare even among large SUVs sold in Brazil.
In tests presented by Ravagnani, the model accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in about 12 seconds, with an estimated consumption of 10 km/l in the city and 12 km/l on the highway.
For an SUV almost 5 meters long and seating seven, the figures are competitive and highlight its focus on efficiency.
Where the Haval H9 2026 Stands Out
Visually, the SUV bets on robustness and sophistication.
Full LED headlights with projectors, integrated DRL, front sensor, steel skid plate, and 19-inch wheels with 265/55 tires.
On the sides, the highlight is the retractable electric step, which lowers when the doors are opened and retracts when closed.
Inside, the comfort package is surprising: ventilated front and rear seats, three-zone climate control, 14.6-inch multimedia system with wireless Android Auto and CarPlay, plus high-definition 360° vision that “looks like a smartphone camera.”
The trunk varies from about 200 liters (with the third row up) to over 600 liters (with the seats folded).
Why It May Worry the Competition
The Haval H9 2026 brings features that combine luxury and off-road: six airbags, level 2 ADAS (ACC, autonomous braking, lane keeping, automatic high beams), panoramic roof, refrigerated storage compartment, and reinforced acoustic insulation.
For Ravagnani, this combination could “give traditional competitors a run for their money.”
Still, there are points to consider. The lateral opening of the trunk may hinder parking in tight spots and the third row is more suitable for children.
The official price will also be decisive in determining competitiveness against already established models in Brazil.
The new SUV from GWM arrives with attributes that are hard to find combined in a single vehicle in the national market: chassis robustness, modern diesel engine, two differential locks, and luxury items typical of higher categories.
