Honda is demonstrating in Thailand that there is still room for a low, versatile, and sophisticated family car amid the global SUV expansion. The 2026 City Hatchback has been updated in that market and is available with both VTEC Turbo and e:HEV hybrid systems, while maintaining the modular seat solution that completely transforms the interior space. The current promotional offer starts at 579,000 baht and reaches up to 749,000 baht for the hybrid RS configuration.
The situation is even more striking when compared to Brazil. The City Hatchback continues to be sold here in 2026 but exclusively uses the well-known 1.5 flex aspirated engine with 126 hp coupled to a CVT. The Brazilian Honda currently does not offer the e:HEV or VTEC Turbo configurations available in Thailand. In other words, Brazil hasn’t lost the hatch, but it remains without precisely the more diverse mechanical configurations of the family.
City Hatchback Prices Start at 579,000 Baht in Thailand
The first figure that catches attention is the price. The official Honda Thailand page currently lists the City Hatchback for 579,000 baht in the S configuration, within a special launch condition valid until September 30, 2026.

At the exchange rate consulted for this report, where each baht corresponds to approximately R$ 0.154986, the 579,000 baht equates to about R$ 89,737. This is merely a direct currency conversion, without Brazilian taxes, freight, homologation, or any import costs.
Therefore, it does not mean that a Thai City Hatchback could be sold in Brazil for R$ 90,000. This amount only serves to illustrate the positioning of the car in its home market.
The comparison draws attention because Thailand maintains a broad offering of traditional hatchbacks even as SUVs gain ground in almost every major market.
Honda Offers Four Versions, Three of Them Hybrid
The current lineup is organized in an unusual manner. The entry-level configuration S costs 579,000 baht, while the first hybrid, called e:HEV V, starts at 629,000 baht.
Above it are the e:HEV SV for 699,000 baht and the e:HEV RS for 749,000 baht. At the exchange rate used in this report, only the e:HEV V is approximately R$ 97,500 before any Brazilian taxation.
This means that the majority of the current Thai hatch lineup consists of electrified versions.
Honda itself presents the City Hatchback in the country as part of a strategy that simultaneously maintains both VTEC Turbo and e:HEV, offering two mechanical approaches within a traditional five-door body.
e:HEV System Combines Two Electric Motors with the 1.5 Engine
The most interesting configuration technically uses the e:HEV hybrid system. According to Honda Thailand, the setup combines a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 16 valves and two electric motors, a lithium-ion battery, and an E-CVT electric transmission.
The logic of the system is different from that found in simple hybrids where the electric motor only acts as occasional support for the combustion engine.
In Honda’s e:HEV, electric propulsion plays a central role in most usage situations. The gasoline engine can function as a power generator and also participate directly in movement during specific efficiency situations.
This solution preserves quick responses at low speeds without relying solely on the thermal engine.
Electric Motor Delivers Up to 253 Nm
The figure released by Honda for the electric motor’s maximum torque is 253 Nm, which corresponds to approximately 25.8 kgfm.
This torque is available immediately when the electric system is engaged, a characteristic typical of electric motors and particularly useful for urban starts and acceleration.
However, it is incorrect to simply add the power and torque of the combustion engine with the values of the electric motors as if they all reach their peaks at the same moment. In hybrid systems, electronic management determines how each source contributes to propulsion.
Honda mainly focuses its communication on the torque of the electric motor and the efficiency of the entire system.
Announced Fuel Consumption Reaches 27.8 km/l
Another significant figure is the fuel consumption. The manufacturer states 27.8 km/l for the City Hatchback e:HEV, a result obtained according to the UN R101 standard related to the homologation used in that market.
This should not be directly compared to Brazilian Inmetro figures as if they were produced by the same testing cycle. Measurement procedures, conditions, and criteria can vary between markets.
Still, this data illustrates the system’s central goal: to significantly reduce urban consumption without turning the City into a fully electric vehicle that needs to be charged from a power outlet.
The owner fills the tank as usual, and the electronics manage the combustion engine, electric motors, and battery during operation.
VTEC Turbo Retains Another Feature Not Available in Brazil
Thailand also offers the VTEC Turbo, while the Brazilian City uses an aspirated engine.
In the official technical material from the generation prior to the 2026 update, Honda specified the 1.0 VTEC Turbo with 122 hp, used in conjunction with the Thai City Hatchback line.
The current page still identifies the range as “e:HEV / Turbo,” although it does not repeat all the technical numbers of the 1.0 in this public section.
Brazilian City Hatchback Delivers 126 hp
In Brazil, the engine delivers 126 hp at 6,200 rpm, regardless of whether gasoline or ethanol is used. Torque reaches 15.8 kgfm with ethanol and 15.5 kgfm with gasoline, both at 4,600 rpm.
The transmission is a CVT automatic, and the traction is front-wheel drive.
This isn’t an outdated or necessarily inferior mechanic. It’s a configuration oriented towards simplicity, efficiency, and linear operation, but it shows that Honda’s regional strategy is quite different.
While Thai buyers can choose between turbo and hybrid, Brazilian consumers currently find only the 1.5 flex aspirated engine.
Brazil Continues Selling the City Hatchback in 2026
Honda maintains an active official page for the 2026 City Hatchback in Brazil. The lineup includes versions such as LX, EX, EXL, Touring, and Touring Sport, depending on the available commercial configuration.
The manufacturer itself lists the City Hatchback among the models currently offered alongside the WR-V, HR-V, Civic, ZR-V, Accord, and CR-V.
Ultra Seat Bancos Completely Transform the Interior Space
Versatility might be the feature that most closely aligns the City Hatchback with larger family cars without increasing its external dimensions.
In Thailand, Honda refers to the setup as Ultra Seat and highlights the ability to modify the cabin configuration in various ways. The current website showcases four usage modes designed for different types of objects and passengers.
The solution allows not only folding down the rear seatback but also changing the vertical utilization of the cabin.
Tall objects can fit behind the front seats, while long loads can use nearly the entire available length.
It’s a proposal that attempts to deliver minivan-level flexibility within a hatchback body.
Thailand Receives a 10-Inch Screen and Multi-View Camera
The Thai update also brought a more sophisticated tech package.
Honda highlights a new 10-inch multimedia center, compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wirelessly, wireless smartphone charging, and a 7-inch TFT instrument cluster.
There’s also a multi-view camera system, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, rear air vents, and USB-C ports for rear passengers.
Depending on the version, the presentation also includes specific visual elements, such as 16-inch alloy wheels, ambient lighting, and sporty finishing touches.
Honda Sensing Keeps the Hatch Equipped Like a Modern Car
The Thai City Hatchback also receives the Honda Sensing package.
Among the technologies officially listed are collision mitigation braking, adaptive cruise control with low-speed operation, lane-keeping assist, lane departure mitigation, and automatic high beams.
There is also a system that alerts the driver when the vehicle in front begins to move.
This combination helps explain why the manufacturer uses terms like “premium sporty” when promoting the model in that market.
It is not just a budget hatchback intended for urban transport. Honda aims to position it as a sophisticated, connected, and technologically advanced compact car.
Measuring 4.34 Meters Without Assuming an SUV Shape
The City Hatchback sold in Brazil measures 4,343 mm in length, 1,748 mm in width, and 1,498 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,600 mm.
The Brazilian trunk has a declared capacity of 268 liters in the standard configuration, but the Magic Seat allows for greater flexibility that a single number does not convey.
It is precisely this architecture that makes the City Hatchback interesting in an era of SUVs.
The vehicle offers five doors, a modular rear seat, reasonable passenger space, and great cargo flexibility while maintaining the center of gravity and height typical of a low car.
Honda Didn’t Need to Turn the City into an SUV to Sell Versatility
The industry has discovered that consumers enjoy the elevated driving position, robust appearance, and feeling of space that SUVs provide. This has led many manufacturers to cut investments in traditional hatchbacks and sedans.
However, Honda Thailand continues to offer the City sedan, City Hatchback, WR-V, BR-V, HR-V, and CR-V concurrently. This means customers can still choose a hatchback without being forced to switch to a crossover.
This variety creates an increasingly uncommon situation: a low five-door vehicle with hybrid engine, assistance technologies, multi-view camera, and an extremely configurable interior.
This is not an attempt to imitate an SUV. It is precisely the preservation of a different formula.
Hybrid Starts Priced Under 100,000 Baht in Direct Conversion
The e:HEV V is currently priced at 629,000 baht under the promotional condition announced by Honda.
According to the exchange rate consulted in this analysis, that represents approximately R$ 97,500 in pure currency conversion.
The e:HEV SV rises to 699,000 baht, while the RS reaches 749,000 baht.
Once again, these figures cannot be presented as “prices the car would have in Brazil.” Taxation, logistics, homologation, commercial margins, and regional product policies make this conversion merely illustrative.
Even so, it helps to reveal how Honda positions its hybrid in the Thai market: as a relatively accessible alternative within its own City lineup.
Hybrid Battery Comes with a Warranty of Up to 10 Years in Thailand
The manufacturer also seeks to alleviate buyer concerns about the battery.
In the current campaign, Honda Thailand informs of a 10-year warranty for the hybrid battery, with specific conditions. The complete hybrid system has a coverage of five years with no mileage limit, while the battery receives an additional extension to reach ten years.
The manufacturer even discloses the reference price of the battery in the Thai market as part of the campaign, a level of transparency that is rare in promotional materials.
The conditions are specific to Thailand and cannot be transferred to other countries.
