With a 1.0 Turbo Engine, Affordable Insurance, and Low Cost of Parts, the HB20 Leads the Ranking Among Compact Hatches in 2025

In an increasingly competitive market, the Hyundai HB20 once again proved why it remains at the top among compact hatches. Voted for the third time as the car with the best cost in Brazil in its category, the model from the South Korean brand defeated no less than eight competitors in the Superguide Which to Buy 2025, a traditional publication of Autoesporte magazine. And it’s not for nothing.

What Makes the HB20 Stand Out in the Crowd?

The 2025 version of the Hyundai HB20 brings a recipe that seems tailor-made for the Brazilian wallet: efficient engine, reasonable service prices, low maintenance costs, and a five-year warranty that is still a reference in the segment.

It comes in two engine options: a 1.0 aspirated block with 80 hp with a manual transmission and the well-known 1.0 turbo with 120 hp, coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission. Both are produced at the Piracicaba (SP) factory and offer reliable performance both in the city and on the road.

According to the Autoesporte ranking, the Limited MT version was suggested as the best choice. Prices range from R$ 95,790 to R$ 129,650, depending on the configuration.

Long Warranty, Cheaper Insurance, and Affordable Parts

One of the biggest advantages of the compact hatch is its low depreciation rate: only 10.6% in the first year, while many competitors surpass 15%. Additionally, insurance rates are more balanced: R$ 2,440 for men and R$ 3,201 for women, figures that were much worse for this model in the past.

Another point in favor of the HB20 is the cost of scheduled services, estimated at R$ 3,173 up to 60,000 km, and the parts basket, which is around R$ 6,384 — the second cheapest in the segment, only behind the Renault Kwid, according to a survey by Autoesporte.

Standard Equipment Enhances the Good Package

Even in the most basic versions, the Hyundai HB20 comes from the factory with an interesting package: six airbags, rearview camera, automatic headlights, and multimedia center. In the case of the Limited version, there is also partial digital dashboard, keyless entry, and push-button start, which places the model in another level within the category.

In the trunk, there are 300 liters of capacity, a number within the average of the category, sufficient for urban use and small trips.

Strengths and What Can Still Improve

Despite its good overall performance, the HB20 still has some details that may bother the more demanding. The interior finish, for example, remains simple across all versions, with rigid materials and little refinement. Another criticized point is the placement of the rear lights (turn signal and reverse), which could be more functional and visible.

Even so, the cost-benefit of the Hyundai HB20 continues to be the great differential, especially after the streamlining of the lineup, which concentrated the best versions into more complete options.

Three-Time Champion with Merit

This is the third time that the Hyundai HB20 has won the title of best compact hatch in the Superguide Which to Buy, and all indications are that its lead is far from threatened. It balances technology, economy, and reliability, making it a solid choice for those seeking an urban car with uncomplicated maintenance and good resale value.

The Hyundai, by the way, has been heavily investing in after-sales, which partly explains why the model remains competitive even in an increasingly contested segment.

Aí vem a decepção.
