New war tank manufactured by Hyundai? Multinational is working on a futuristic war tank that promises to revolutionize the weapons sector. Hydrogen-powered war tank offers several advantages benefits.

South Korea is rapidly expanding its military capabilities by developing its own high-level defense systems. In addition to a ballistic missile submarine, an aircraft carrier, and a KF-21 stealth fighter, what is now attracting attention is a new main battle tank from Hyundai, called the K3. In this article, we will learn about the South Korean company's hydrogen-powered main battle tank.

Meet Hyundai's futuristic war tank

This hydrogen-powered battle tank is a technologically advanced Main Battle Tank (MBT) that Hyundai Rotem, the same company that built São Paulo's subway trains, is developing to enter active service in 2030.

With a protective shell with reactive honeycomb armor elements, the Hyundai main battle tank has a low silhouette and a delta turret with a long 130 mm smoothbore gun with stealth elements and IR emission reducers.

This futuristic tank turret also features grenade launchers on some of its hexagonal shields, as well as chaffs and an anti-tank missile in a retractable launcher. With a focus on stealth, including a camouflaged 0.50 machine gun, the Korean hydrogen-powered tank will have radar-absorbent paint.

With ceramic armor and a tubular frame chassis, Hyundai's main battle tank is being developed to take on modern tanks, defend against artillery batteries and even deploy drones into enemy territory.

Advantages of hydrogen powered battle tank

The fire control systems and optronic sights are camouflaged and designed to reduce the radar detection area. The futuristic war tank can also move without IR emissions since it is powered by a fuel cell stack.

The use of hydrogen in the Hyundai battle tank increases stealth, as there is no heat emission and the K3 can thus remain hidden for long periods on the battlefield.

With a crew of three, the futuristic battle tank could be produced with a diesel engine initially, which could be a 12 horsepower V1.500 diesel, already used in the K2 Black Panther. However, the focus is on hydrogen fuel cells.

It is worth noting that Hyundai Rotem is a subsidiary of the South Korean conglomerate Hyundai Motor Group, specialized in the manufacture of rolling stock, railway engineering, defense industry and industrial equipment.

Founded in 1977, the company initially developed as Hyundai Precision and Industry Company before becoming Hyundai Rotem in 2007, following several internal mergers within the group. Today, although it is not very visible in France, it is one of the world leaders in its sector.

New futuristic war tank has more autonomy

This Hyundai main battle tank was designed in partnership with the Korea Defense Development Agency and other research institutes. Called the K3, the new Hyundai Rotem main battle tank represents the next generation of South Korea’s K-series tanks.

Scheduled to enter production in 2040, this model will be equipped with hydrogen fuel cell technology that will gradually replace the diesel engines currently used in the K series.

The K3 is designed to be considerably quieter than its predecessors and, thanks to hydrogen fuel cell technology, will offer faster acceleration and a much longer range than a 100% electric model.
