The Federal Institute of Espírito Santo announced this week the opening of enrollment for the free robotics course taught in the EAD modality. The course will last 60 hours.
The EAD Educational Robotics course at Federal Institute of Espírito Santo (IFES) is a free robotics course fully taught at a distance (EAD). Those selected must meet some technical requirements to participate, such as having a computer with internet access, Arduino IDE software, and other requirements specified by the Institution.
Requirements to participate in the free EAD robotics course at IFES
The initiative makes up the Corte de Locelace Project, a great reference to Countess Ada de Lovelace, considered the first programmer in the world. The project was developed in 2018 with the distance learning course “Lovelace's Moodle, Python Programming Course: a call for girls to pursue a career in computing”.
Although it is part of a project named after the first programmer in the world, the free EAD robotics course at IFES is not exclusive to women. The institution states that all people with basic computer knowledge, who are willing to work with robotics, are welcome, and also encourages the participation of women in careers linked to the technology sector. The target audience is students in the final years of elementary and high school, professionals from the public and private sectors, and the community in general.
Those who are interested in enrolling in the free IFES robotics EAD course must create an account at Federal Institute of Espírito Santo website (IFES) using some data such as email, full name, city, country, CPF, family income, date of birth, among others.
Robotics free course contents
This introductory course to educational robotics is at an intermediate level and will last 60 hours, 100% in Portuguese. The structure and contents taught are Introduction to Robotics (history, resources and concepts), Mechanics, Mechanisms of Programming, Electricity, Design, among others.
At this stage, the objective of free distance learning course of IFES is to familiarize students with robotic mechanisms and with examples presented in video lessons.
The second content is the practical experimentation of robotic projects using these mechanisms. In this part, knowledge of the development of robotic projects will be deepened, skills development of technological concepts and mechanisms to be used.
The third is the Scientific Olympiad, which aims to promote a focus on problem understanding skills, transversal concepts, assimilation between logical reasoning and robotic mechanism.
Differentials of the free EAD robotics course at IFES
IFES points out that the differentials of its robotics course are the use of video classes to explain the methodology and learning concepts based on mechanisms. In addition, there is also a forum “one another helped”, which can be used by students who have doubts, activities aimed at developing skills and gamified activities.
Regarding the selection process, candidates will be submitted to questions related to videos, technical and creative projects and questionnaires about knowledge of robotic mechanisms. It is important to note that the Federal Institute of Espírito Santo was founded in 2008, from the merger of technical schools and educational institutions focused on agribusiness.
The institution offers several free high school courses integrated with technical education, higher education courses, independent technical courses, postgraduate courses, specializations and master's degrees. In total, there are 23 campuses spread across several municipalities in the state of Espírito Santo.
