IFMA Has Over 700 New Spots in Free Technical Courses With Certificate for People Over 18 Looking to Complete High School.

The Federal Institute of Maranhão (IFMA) announced this week a selection notice for technical courses at the high school level in the Youth and Adult Education (EJA) modality. A total of 790 spots are being offered for individuals aged 18 and over who want to complete high school while obtaining a technical course certificate. Applications are free and can be made online until the 30th of this month.

Check the Campuses with Available Spots in Free Technical Courses

The certificate opportunities are available at 17 campuses, including Açailândia, Barra do Corda, Bacabal, Barreirinhas, Caxias, Buriticupu, Coelho Neto, Codó, Imperatriz, São João dos Patos, Santa Inês, São Raimundo das Mangabeiras, Timon, and Zé Doca.

In the state capital, the Historical Center, Maracanã, and Monte Castelo campuses are included. Classes will take place in person, with a start date scheduled for the first semester of next year. The complete list of available spots at IFMA can be found in the Notice.

It is important to highlight that there will be no exam, and the selection process will occur through the analysis of a socioeconomic questionnaire. The selection results are set to be announced on February 1st of next year, with enrollment for those selected in the first call from February 2nd to 8th.

The notice establishes that half of the spots in each of the free courses with a certificate are reserved for candidates who graduated from public schools, according to Law No. 12.711/2012. Of the spots allocated for candidates from public schools, half is reserved for candidates with a gross family income equal to or less than one and a half minimum wages per person, and the other half is reserved for candidates from families earning above this per capita income. In each half, 77% of the spots are guaranteed for self-declared Black, Brown, and Indigenous individuals, and 5% for people with disabilities.

Applications Can Be Made Online

Applications must be made via the institution’s website, and when applying, candidates wishing to compete for opportunities designated for Black and Brown individuals must confirm their ethnic-racial self-declaration and include a photo that meets the requirements specified in the Notice.

This photo will only be used for the hetero-identification process and cannot be used for other purposes. The hetero-identification process involves third-party verification of the self-declared status at the time of registration, conducted by a Validation Committee at each IFMA Campus, specifically established for this purpose, consisting of three alternate members and three main members.

For candidates competing for spots designated for Indigenous individuals, it is necessary to present, at enrollment, the Indigenous Birth Registration (RANI), if available, or a declaration of belonging to an Indigenous group, signed by the candidate, the chief, and two representatives of the community to which they belong, or a declaration of belonging issued by a legitimate entity of Indigenous peoples’ organizations, signed by two members of the coordination and the candidate.
