A fire of significant proportions struck about ten portable toilets set up on the lawn of the Esplanade of the Ministries, in Brasília, on the morning of this Tuesday (09/09/2025). The fire generated a dense column of black smoke that could be seen from various points in the central region of the federal capital.

The location is less than two kilometers from the Supreme Court, where the trial of former President Jair Bolsonaro was taking place.

According to the Fire Department and the Military Police, the fire was quickly controlled, and there were no reports of injuries.

The flames began around 11:30 AM in an area near the National Museum, one of the most well-known tourist spots on the Esplanade.

The fire quickly consumed the portable toilets, raising suspicions about the origin of the incident.

The proximity to the Supreme Court generated apprehension, as a high-profile trial was taking place at the same time.

At 12 PM, the Military Police reported that the situation was already under control, and an investigation would be conducted to clarify the circumstances of the fire.

Firefighters Worked to Control the Flames

The Fire Department of Brasília was called immediately after the first signs of smoke.

According to the military, the flames were contained within a few minutes, preventing the fire from spreading to other areas. The department also confirmed that there were no injuries during the incident.

According to witnesses, the intensity of the smoke drew the attention of passersby, causing some moments of panic.

However, security agents were able to quickly isolate the area, ensuring that traffic in the region was not compromised.

Portable Toilets Destroyed by the Fire

The fire completely destroyed about ten portable toilets that were set up on the lawn. So far, there is no information on who was responsible for the installation of the structures.

The material loss was considered significant, and images captured at the scene show the dense smoke contrasting with the buildings of the Esplanade.
