Annually, millions of Brazilians face doubts and news related to the tax authorities, and 2025 will be no different. Prepare to understand the main changes, deadlines, and criteria that involve this year’s declaration.

Deadlines and News for the 2025 Declaration

The Federal Revenue announced that the period for submitting the 2025 Income Tax Declaration will begin on March 17 and will extend until May 31.

This change aims to provide taxpayers with adequate time to gather and organize all necessary information for the correct filling out of the declaration.

Update of the Income Tax Table

One of the main changes for 2025 is the update of the Income Tax table. The government proposed correcting the exemption threshold to R$ 2,414.40 per month, aiming to maintain the exemption for those earning up to two minimum wages.

With the simplified deduction of R$ 603.60, taxpayers earning up to R$ 3,018 per month will be exempt, equivalent to two minimum wages estimated in the budget.

Progressive Income Tax Table for 2025

The progressive table for the year 2025, considering the proposed updates, will be as follows:

  • Bracket 1: Up to R$ 2,414.40 – Rate: 0%
  • Bracket 2: From R$ 2,414.41 to R$ 3,018.00 – Rate: 7.5%
  • Bracket 3: From R$ 3,018.01 to R$ 3,751.05 – Rate: 15%
  • Bracket 4: From R$ 3,751.06 to R$ 4,664.68 – Rate: 22.5%
  • Bracket 5: Above R$ 4,664.68 – Rate: 27.5%

It is important to highlight that these changes still depend on approval from the National Congress. Therefore, taxpayers should monitor official updates to ensure correct compliance with tax obligations.

Who Is Required to File in 2025?

For the year 2025, the criteria for mandatory submission of the Income Tax Declaration include:

  • Taxable Income: Taxpayers who received taxable income exceeding R$ 28,559.70 in the previous year.
  • Exempt, Non-Taxable, or Exclusively Taxed at Source Income: Those who had income exceeding R$ 40,000.00 in that category.
  • Capital Gains and Stock Market Operations: Those who obtained capital gains from the sale of assets or rights or conducted operations in stock exchanges, commodity exchanges, futures, and similar.
  • Rural Activity: Taxpayers with gross income from rural activity exceeding R$ 142,798.50 or those wishing to offset losses from previous years.
  • Assets and Rights: Those who, as of December 31 of the previous year, owned assets or rights, including bare land, with a total value exceeding R$ 300,000.00.
  • Resident Condition: Those who became residents in Brazil in any month and were in that condition on December 31.

It is essential that taxpayers verify if they fit into any of these situations to avoid issues with the Federal Revenue.

Changes Expected for 2026

The government announced its intention to raise the Income Tax exemption threshold to R$ 5,000.00 per month starting in 2026.

This measure aims to benefit a larger portion of the population, reducing the tax burden on workers. However, this change is still under discussion and requires legislative approval to take effect.

Tips for a Error-Free Declaration

To avoid issues with the Federal Revenue, it is essential that taxpayers:

  • Organize in advance all necessary documents, such as income reports, deductible expense receipts, and proof of payments.
  • Verify the accuracy and precision of the information provided, avoiding inconsistencies that could lead to audits.
  • Use the official program from the Federal Revenue for filling out and submitting the declaration, ensuring that all updates and rules are applied correctly.
  • Be attentive to deadlines, avoiding leaving submission for the last days, which could cause delays and possible fines.

The Income Tax Declaration 2025 brings significant updates that directly impact Brazilian taxpayers.

Staying informed about changes in the table, deadlines, and criteria for mandatory filing is essential to comply correctly with tax obligations and avoid setbacks with the Federal Revenue.

Stay updated and seek professional advice if necessary to ensure an accurate and error-free declaration.
