Chevrolet Prepares Launch of a New Diesel Engine in Brazil, Aiming to Compete with Toyota and Ford Pickups, Promising Greater Power and Efficiency.
The Silverado, after its return to the Brazilian market in the exclusive High Country variant, specially adapted for Brazil, is preparing for new launches. At the beginning of 2024, the arrival of the much-anticipated Z71 version is expected. However, an option that may be less known is the Silverado equipped with the new Chevrolet Duramax 3.0 diesel engine.
Chevrolet’s New Engine Has Great Differentials for the Brazilian Market
Toyota engines are revolutionizing the automotive industry, and manufacturers like Chevrolet are striving to keep up, especially with their new Chevrolet Duramax 3.0 diesel engine. This engine stands out for combining technology, power, and efficiency. Since its launch in 2001, the Duramax line has evolved, excelling in power and torque.

Known for their towing robustness, Duramax engines are a common choice in the brand’s heavy-duty trucks, and the recent Duramax 3.0 six-cylinder shows significant advances in these areas. The journey of Chevrolet’s new engine is marked by constant innovations despite past challenges. Since its debut, the line has established itself as a strong competitor in the diesel segment.
The 3.0 inline six-cylinder model exemplifies engineering precision and innovation. In design, Chevrolet’s new engine offers features such as a start-stop system, which enhances fuel efficiency and enables quieter operation compared to other diesel engines.
The new 2023 Duramax is a revolution in terms of power and torque, as this innovative version with its 3.0 inline six-cylinder engine is an excellent choice for those seeking performance and autonomy.
In the U.S., this engine powers notable vehicles such as the Silverado 1500 and the Tarol and Suburban SUVs, all from Chevrolet and powered by diesel.
Chevrolet’s New Engine for Brazil Delivers 350 Horsepower

In 2023, this engine was further improved, receiving an increase of 28 horsepower and an additional 25 kg of torque. Chevrolet’s new engine is an example of innovation in the field of diesel engines.
With advanced technologies that are not common in this type of engine, it stands out in the market, offering 350 horsepower at 3750 rpm. Its torque is impressively close to 70 kg and becomes available at just 1,500 RPM.
This mechanical set is complemented by a 10-speed automatic transmission that ensures smooth and continuous acceleration. A notable feature of the Duramax 3.0 is its quiet operation, a rare quality in diesel engines.
Additionally, it comes equipped with an exhaust brake, meaning this system allows the engine’s compression to help slow down the vehicle, reducing the use of mechanical brakes. This is particularly useful to avoid overheating when towing heavy loads.
New Engine Also Focuses on Fuel Economy
The Silverado 1500, equipped with this engine, boasts impressive fuel economy, ranging from 10 to 11 Km per L, achieved in combined city and highway cycles in both normal and 4×4 traction. It is particularly ideal for the Brazilian market, where there is a significant preference for diesel trucks necessary for heavy-duty work.
Internationally, three models dominate the diesel market: the Ford F150, the Silverado 1500, and the Ram 1500.
Interestingly, these models are also available in Brazil, but in their gasoline versions. The Ram, in turn, ceased production of its eco diesel 3.0 engine in January 2023. Ford had already discontinued its powerstroke diesel 3.0 engine in 2021.
