The Federal Institute of Minas Gerais (IFMG) has opened applications for the free specialization in Teaching Portuguese Language and Literature in Basic Education, offered by the Sabará Campus in distance learning mode.
The selection process foresees admission in the first semester of 2026.
In total, there are 60 spots exclusively for candidates with a degree in Language Studies, in undergraduate or bachelor’s degree formats, as established by the announcement.

The maximum duration is up to 24 months, a period that includes the development of the Final Course Project (TCC).

Who Can Participate in the Language Studies Postgraduate Program at IFMG
Only professionals graduated in Language Studies can participate in the selection process.
The announcement states that candidates graduated in other areas will not be accepted.
This restriction remains even in cases of experience in teaching Portuguese Language or working in Basic Education.
Of the total workload, 300 hours will be allocated to the subjects.
Another 60 hours are reserved for the TCC.
The final project must be developed in the format of an academic article.
According to the course rules, the student may choose to submit the article to a journal in the field of Language Studies or Linguistics.
The journal must have a minimum Qualis B4 classification.
Alternatively, the student may present the work to a board of examiners consisting of at least three members, chaired by the advisor.
Although the specialization is offered in distance mode, IFMG emphasizes in the announcement the mandatory participation in the synchronous meetings.

Distribution of Spots and Affirmative Actions at IFMG
Out of the 60 available spots, 45 are allocated for general competition.
Another 12 spots are reserved for self-declared black, brown, or indigenous candidates.
There is also one spot specifically for quilombola candidates.
Additionally, one spot is reserved for self-declared transgender or transvestite individuals.
Moreover, one spot is reserved for individuals with disabilities.
The announcement states that if there are not enough candidates to fill the reserved spots, these opportunities will be redistributed to the general competition.
In this case, the final classification order will be respected.

Stages of the Selection Process and Expected Dates
The selection will be carried out in two stages.
The first consists of the title assessment.
This phase is based on the analysis of the resume and supporting documents submitted at the time of application.

In the second stage, invited candidates will participate in an online interview, conducted via videoconference.
According to the official schedule, interviews are expected to take place between January 19 and 22.
The times may be scheduled in the morning, afternoon, or evening.
The announcement notes that the absence of the candidate on the scheduled day and time will result in disqualification.
The final result of the selection process is expected on February 2.
The deadline for filing an appeal extends until 8 PM on February 3.
For candidates registered for the reserved spots, the schedule includes the holding of a diversity committee between January 26 and 29.
This procedure will preferably take place in the afternoon.

IFMG also establishes that the course may not be offered if there are fewer than ten approved candidates at the end of the selection process.

Applications must be submitted exclusively via the internet, through an electronic form.
Documents must be sent scanned in PDF format.
Among the required items are identity document, CPF, and diploma or certificate of completion of the degree in Language Studies.
It is also necessary to present a resume, preferably in the Lattes Platform model.
The proofs used for the title assessment must be attached at the time of application.
According to the announcement, the verification of documentation does not occur at the time of application.
Thus, the responsibility for sending complete and correct files lies with the candidate.
Applications with incomplete documentation or not meeting the requirements may be denied.
Candidates who require specialized assistance during the interview must indicate this condition on the form.
In such cases, medical documentation is required, according to the official guidelines.
How to Register for the Free Specialization in Language Studies at IFMG
The applications are free.
The application period runs from December 15 to January 11. The entire procedure must be completed through the electronic form published on the official channels of IFMG and Sabará Campus.
