USS Abraham Lincoln Operates in the Arabian Sea with Destroyers, and Iran Claims to Have Launched Four Missiles at the Aircraft Carrier Amid a Confrontation That Already Involves Drones, Bases in the Region, and Threats of New Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard claimed on Sunday to have launched four ballistic missiles at the US aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln. According to a statement released by local media, the ship would have been hit during the escalation of the conflict that began after joint attacks by the United States and Israel on Tehran on Saturday.
This declaration marks the first time Iran claims to have directly attacked one of the main ships of the US Navy since the operation began. In the statement, the Iranian military warned that “land and sea will increasingly become the graveyard of aggressors.”
Attack Not Confirmed by Washington
The alleged attack could not be independently verified, and the US government did not immediately confirm the incident. So far, American forces have reported minimal damage and no casualties, despite mentioning hundreds of attacks with Iranian missiles and drones since the beginning of the confrontation.

It is also unclear whether the launch occurred as described or if the announcement is part of a propaganda strategy amid the internal crisis in Iran following the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and dozens of high-ranking military commanders in Saturday’s bombings.
Military Reinforcement in the Region
The USS Abraham Lincoln arrived in the region in January accompanied by three guided missile destroyers, reinforcing the US naval presence during negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program. The ship operates alongside the USS Frank E. Petersen Jr. in the Arabian Sea.
The aircraft carrier is part of a broader military deployment, totaling more than 10,000 additional soldiers in the region. The group also includes the USS Gerald R. Ford, considered the largest aircraft carrier in the world, currently in the Mediterranean with four escort destroyers.
Operation Honest Promise 4 and Retaliation Threats
The Iranian announcement comes in the context of the so-called Operation Honest Promise 4, in which the Revolutionary Guard claims to have carried out at least eight waves of missile and drone attacks against Israel and US military bases in Bahrain, Kuwait, and Qatar.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that revenge for Khamenei’s death is a “duty and legitimate right.” Meanwhile, security chief Ali Larijani promised to strike the United States and Israel with a “force never seen before.”
Donald Trump responded by stating that he would attack Iran with a “force never seen before” if the reprisals continue. Both he and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the operation will continue for as long as necessary, while Trump also urged the Iranian people to take the opportunity to “regain control” of their government.
Deaths in High Command and National Mourning
Saturday’s attacks eliminated a significant portion of the Iranian military high command, including Mohammad Pakpour, head of the Revolutionary Guard; Abdolrahim Mousavi, chief of staff; Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh; and security adviser Ali Shamkhani.
The Iranian Red Crescent reported 201 dead and hundreds injured in the country. Iran declared 40 days of national mourning and formed a transitional triumvirate to govern until the Assembly of Experts selects a new supreme leader.
