Kia Carens 2025 Arrives in the Automotive Market as a New 7-Seater Minivan and May Threaten Sales of the Chevrolet Spin with Up to 160 HP.

Although the minivan segment is practically extinct in Brazil, surviving with few options like the veteran Chevrolet Spin and the luxurious Kia Carnival, the scenario is quite different in other countries. In Asian markets, such as India, this type of vehicle remains popular—especially among large families and rideshare drivers who need space without sacrificing efficiency. A clear example of this trend is the new Kia Carens 2025, a 7-seater minivan that has just been updated by the South Korean automaker and has drawn attention for its modern design, standard equipment, and robust engine with up to 160 horsepower.

The new generation of the Carens was designed with a focus on comfort, versatility, and embedded technology, offering versions with automatic transmission, turbo engine, a generous multimedia center, and safety features ranging from stability control to multiple airbags. Although initially developed for India, the model is already circulating in other emerging markets and could be an excellent addition to Kia’s portfolio in Brazil.

Given the low local competition and the growing demand for vehicles with 7 seats, the arrival of the Kia Carens 2025 in Brazil could represent a direct threat to the hegemony of the Chevrolet Spin, currently one of the only options with this configuration in the country. In this article, you will find everything that is known about the new Carens in the international market, its specifications, distinguishing features, and why it would be a strong candidate to carve out space in the national segment.

Although there is a significant difference in design compared to the previous model, the Kia Carens Clavis is merely a mid-life update of this generation.

The minivan has incorporated strong visual elements from Kia’s electric lineup, primarily inspired by the EV3 and EV5. The front of the model is cleaner, mainly due to the front grille now only being located in the bumper.

The headlights form an L-shape for the daytime running light, almost like in the Chevrolet Spin. The main lighting is in a triangle shape and features three squares of LED, giving it a very modern look that is becoming standard in South Korean cars. At the back, the Kia Carens with seven seats has connected L-shaped taillights and a trunk lid with few creases.

Just like the Chevrolet model sold in the Brazilian market, the South Korean minivan adopts a slightly adventurous design to attract SUV buyers. The entire lower part of the body is covered in black plastic, which adds to the vehicle’s height while also providing a sense of robustness. In the top-of-the-line versions, the model also features gray details for contrast.

Engine and Interior of the Kia Carens 2025 Also Do Not Disappoint

Following the standard of other models from the South Korean brand, the interior of the Kia Carens with seven seats is very well made and quite modern. It features horizontal lines that dominate, with sections of hard plastic and soft material. The steering wheel of the model has the brand logo off-center, while the panel of fully digital instruments is integrated with the multimedia center.

As already emphasized by the brand, the new model comes with physical buttons for air conditioning control and some points of the multimedia center, such as music changing and volume. With space for seven people, the minivan could easily compete in the same market as the Chevrolet Spin in Brazil if it were to arrive.

As for the mechanical aspects, there is not much excitement, as it features a 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with only 115 horsepower. Compared to the Chevrolet Spin, the Kia Carens 2025 is 4 HP more powerful and uses the smaller engine, since GM’s model is 1.8. There is also a 1.5 turbo version with impressive 160 horsepower that would leave even the Citroën Aircross in the dust.

A Bit of the History of the Kia Carens in the Minivan Market

The vehicle from the South Korean brand has stood out in the minivan and compact SUV segments since its launch in 1999. With a proposal for diversity and comfort, the Carens quickly captured the market, delivering a combination of internal space and efficiency.

As the years have passed, the automaker has been enhancing the model, incorporating new technologies and modern design, which has made it an attractive option for families and drivers looking for practicality.

The first generation of the vehicle was launched in 1999 and remained in production until 2006. It was well-known for its simple and functional design, with capacity for up to seven passengers. The engine was a 2.0 liters, delivering an average consumption of 10 km/L in the city and 12 km/L on the highway.

The technical specifications included a power of 136 horsepower, a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic, and dimensions of 4,510 mm in length, 1,780 mm in width, and 1,620 mm in height. During its production, the first generation of the Carens gained prominence for its reliability and low maintenance cost, becoming a popular choice among families at the time.

Obrigado.
