The owner and operator of tankers, Knutsen NYK Offshore Tankers (KNOT), located in Norway, has placed an order for a new tanker to be chartered by the Brazilian giant Petrobras.
The contract for the construction of the 154,000 m3 Suezmax Dynamic Positioning (DP2) tanker was signed by KNOT on November 21. The project will be executed by the Chinese shipyard Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry (Zhoushan).
KNOT reported that the new tanker ordered for Petrobras will be delivered to the Brazilian oil and gas giant in 2025. From then on, Petrobras will be the charterer of the vessel under a contract valid for 15 years.

In 2022, Petrobras Received Three New Suezmax DP2 Tankers
In recent years, Petrobras has received three Suezmax DP2 tankers that were chartered from AET, a logistics unit of Malaysia’s MISC Berhad, headquartered in Singapore.
In March 2022, the first of these vessels, the Eagle Colatina, built for chartering by Petrobras, arrived in Brazil. Two months later, Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) delivered the second, which was designated as Eagle Cambe.
By the end of July 2022, the third and final tanker, named Eagle Crato, was finally delivered.
According to KNOT, the vessels were built in accordance with the technical requirements of naval construction and will operate under the “highest operational and environmental standards.”
These standards include full compliance with IMO Tier 3 NOx and SOx emission requirements. Additionally, the tankers were built according to Petrobras’ technical requirements in Brazil.
The tankers have an ABS class rating and are equipped with variable frequency drive cargo pumps, which are electrically driven, as well as high-power propellers, which contribute to greater fuel consumption efficiency.
