Komatsu Revealed An Electric And Autonomous Submersible Tractor Capable Of Operating At 7 Meters Depth, With Plans To Reach Up To 50 Meters In The Future. This Innovation Aims To Transform Underwater Construction, Offering More Efficient And Sustainable Solutions For Maritime Projects.
The Japanese construction equipment giant, Komatsu, surprised everyone by unveiling an innovative fully electric underwater bulldozer at CES 2025, the world’s largest consumer technology event, in Las Vegas. The tractor was one of the highlights of the event.
The presentation marked the company’s debut at the fair and brought with it an impressive combination of innovation, sustainability, and history.
Innovation Inspired By The Past
According to the Komatsu team, the prototype of the tractor is an evolution of a mechanical model created in the 1970s, which was diesel-powered.

A trick with joint compound transforms a Styrofoam ceiling into a plaster-like ceiling: leveled panels, wires and mesh at the joints, sand, paint, and change the environment while spending little today.
The new version reflects current demands for more sustainable technologies, operating exclusively on electric power.
The submersible tractor can work at depths of up to seven meters, but the company is developing technologies to extend this capability to 50 meters in the near future.
With a 450 kWh battery, expandable to 500 kWh, the bulldozer has a runtime of six hours of continuous operation.
The charging time is just four hours, allowing its use in critical tasks such as river dredging, ecosystem restoration, and disaster prevention.

Impact On The Industry And Sustainability
Taisuke Kusaba, CTO and President of the Development Division of Komatsu Ltd., highlighted the importance of the event for the company. “CES offers us a unique opportunity to present innovations that shape the world around us. Our submersible bulldozer reflects our commitment to sustainability and technological advancement,” he stated.
Komatsu’s initiative aligns with the increasing demand for sustainable solutions in sectors such as construction and mining. By replacing combustion engines with electric systems, the company contributes to emissions reduction and promotes a cleaner future.
First Physical Exhibition And Future Technologies
In addition to the submersible bulldozer, Komatsu brought its first physical display of lunar construction equipment to CES 2025, reinforcing its position as a leader in extreme technologies.
The company’s booth in the West Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center was designed to attract not only investors and partners but also young talents who can shape the future of engineering and automation.
Hiroyuki Ogawa, President and CEO of Komatsu Ltd., emphasized the importance of attracting new generations. “The construction and mining industries employ some of the most advanced technologies, but we need talents who see the opportunities for innovation in these areas,” he declared.

Design And Technical Challenges
The presented submersible bulldozer is a clear example of how Komatsu seeks to overcome complex technical challenges. Currently, the equipment faces limitations related to GPS use in underwater environments.
However, the company is investing in developing solutions that allow greater accuracy and range, even in adverse conditions.
The choice for electric power also presents challenges, especially regarding energy efficiency and durability in submerged environments.
Despite this, Komatsu has demonstrated confidence in its ability to adapt existing technologies to meet the specific demands of this segment.
A Century Of Innovation
Founded 103 years ago, Komatsu is widely recognized for its expertise in heavy equipment. The company operates in over 150 countries and serves a wide range of industries, including construction, mining, forestry, and industrial.
Its commitment to innovation has been one of the pillars of its longevity, allowing it to adapt to market changes and new global demands.
Throughout its history, Komatsu has established a global network of services and distribution to ensure technical support and increase productivity for its customers.
These partnerships have been essential for the development of solutions like the electric submersible bulldozer.
Global Engagement And Career Opportunities
Participation in CES 2025 is also a strategy for Komatsu to strengthen its global presence and attract talent.
The event, which brings together thousands of companies and innovators, provides a unique platform to demonstrate the relevance of its technologies in a global scenario.
“CES is more than a showcase of products; it’s an opportunity to connect with the future,” Kusaba commented. He emphasized that the goal is not just to showcase technological advancements but also to inspire the next generation of engineers and designers.
A New Era For Submersible Equipment
The transition to electric equipment marks a new era for Komatsu and the heavy construction industry as a whole.
The application of advanced technologies in underwater contexts opens doors for projects that were formerly limited by environmental or logistical issues.
Expectations for the development of the submersible bulldozer include not only improvements in battery autonomy and range but also the integration of artificial intelligence systems for autonomous operation.
These advancements could revolutionize the way infrastructure projects are carried out in complex environments.
