Generating More Than 2,500 Job Openings for the State of PE, the Works of the Largest Solar Power Plant in Latin America Have Received About R$ 3 Billion in Investments and Will Benefit More Than 800 Thousand Families.

On July 9, Minister of Mines and Energy, Bento Albuquerque, and Minister of Tourism, Gilson Machado, participated in the inauguration of the solar power plants Brígida, Belmonte, and Bom Nome, in the municipality of São José do Belmonte (PE) and promise to generate thousands of job openings. The plants occupy an area of 186.9 hectares and were announced in April 2019. The solar power installations belong to the Spanish company, Solatio, and carry the title of being the largest in Latin America.

More Than 2,500 Job Openings Will Be Generated by Solar Power Plants in PE

According to data from the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), since 2019, the construction of solar power plants has already generated more than 2,500 direct and indirect jobs. Together, the units have an installed capacity of 810 MW and can generate energy for the homes of 800 thousand families.

The set, which already forms the largest solar power park in the country, is the largest in Latin America in solar generation and has already received approximately R$ 3 billion in investments.

Despite the size of the project in PE, President Jair Bolsonaro did not attend the event, unlike the recent inaugurations of solar power plants that were held in Paraíba and Goiás.

The giant complex in Latin America, mentioned earlier, consists of seven plants (including the three inaugurated) and together, has the capacity to generate 1.1 thousand megawatts (MW). In PE, the solar plants are responsible for boosting distributed microgeneration of energy, with a 264% increase through centralized generation, according to data from the Brazilian Photovoltaic Solar Energy Association (ABSOLAR).

To host the largest solar power plant in Latin America, the state has several regions with high levels of solar incidence, making the source widely explored. In PE, there are about 39 projects in the planning phase, which correspond to 5.6% of the total power generated by renewable sources in the state.
