Closure of Buraco do Galego, Also Known as ‘Buraco do Neymar’, and Lasca da Velha Occurs After Reports of Violence, Irregular Services, and Elevated Risk of the Sea, Leading ICMBio to Adopt Temporary Safety and Tourist Management Measures in the Region
According to a report by UOL, ICMBio decided to suspend access to two natural pools in Fernando de Noronha due to inappropriate use of the spaces, one of them being Buraco do Galego, which also became known as ‘Buraco do Neymar’. The measure is indefinite and was taken in conjunction with the District Administration after a series of complaints.
The decision affected Buraco do Galego and Lasca da Velha. The agency pointed out violence and the provision of unauthorized services as the main reasons.
Additionally, it reported that the situation created disputes between visitors and people acting illegally.

Reasons for the Suspension
ICMBio stated that the closure also aims to reinforce protection and safety. The current period has rough seas, thus the risk of accidents increases significantly.
The responsible parties understood that the measure was necessary to avoid new problems.
The closed areas are located at Praia dos Cachorros and had been receiving a large flow of tourists.
Excessive access made movement disorganized. Therefore, conflicts among visitors became more frequent.
Guidelines for Visitors
Signs will be installed around the area, and firefighters will guide those arriving in the region. Access will only be granted following maritime management studies. The agency has not set a deadline.
If someone insists on entering, the Military Police may be called. The visitor may even face administrative measures, according to ICMBio.
Why ‘Buraco do Neymar’ Became Famous
Buraco do Galego gained national attention after Neymar published a photo at the location with Bruna Marquezine.
The image, taken in 2018, quickly went viral and attracted even more visitors to Praia dos Cachorros. From that moment on, the location began to be referred to as ‘Buraco do Neymar’ by visitors.
From then on, the spot became a sought-after backdrop for tourist photos. Lines increased, as everyone wanted a similar picture.
This rapid growth eventually created daily friction between those waiting and those providing unauthorized services.
The intense flow completely changed the dynamics of the place. Thus, the closure aims to reduce tensions and ensure safety until a new management plan is defined.
The decision reinforces that the goal is to restore order because the excess of visitors has compromised the safe use of the spots. Additionally, the agency states that detailed studies will be crucial to guide the reopening.
