Lucid Motors, American Vehicle Manufacturer, Announced Its First Electric SUV That Will Have Over 830 km of Range on a Single Charge. The Model Is Promised to Hit the Market in 2024.

Lucid Motors, a vehicle manufacturer, after having secured its place in the electric car market with its first model, the Lucid Air, is now expanding its offering and plans to launch a new supercar disguised as a electric SUV. The model has been named Gravity and, according to the manufacturer, the vehicle promises to impact the luxury SUV market as soon as it hits the market in mid-2024. Although it has a taller body, the model aims to achieve an ambitious goal of offering more range than any other electric car on the market.

According to Lucid, the brand’s DNA is very present in this fully electric proposal, with performance and efficiency taking center stage. In fact, the company guarantees that the new SUV will be the electric model with the most range on the market, much more than the Lucid Air that surprised by achieving 830 km on a single charge.

Although there is not much information about the new Gravity, there is already a point of interest for those who are enthusiasts of the SUV segment. This vehicle will feature up to seven seats, flexibility for changes in the interior configuration, depending on what is most feasible for the user in daily life.

Compared to the Grand Touring version of the Lucid Air, the electric SUV will have to deliver something over 830 km of range per charge, a mark difficult to achieve for a vehicle in this segment, which is naturally heavier and has less favorable aerodynamics than that of a regular sedan.

Gravity Will Compete with the Tesla Model X

According to Lucid, the electric SUV combines supercar performance with space to accommodate up to seven people, something very rare for its category. According to Lucid’s Vice President of Design, Derek Jenkins, in a press release, it is a supercar disguised as an SUV with flexible space for passengers and cargo.

The model will be available in two or three-row configurations, meaning capacity for five, six, or seven occupants. The Gravity will have to compete in the market with a heavyweight rival, the Tesla Model X, which is also sold in configurations of up to seven seats, starting at US$ 122,190 (R$ 658,000 at the current exchange rate) and offers a range of 565 km.

The vehicle’s powertrain should be similar to the electric car previously launched by Lucid, with versions boasting over 800 horsepower. Initially, since it is an SUV, the estimate was a more modest range nearing 640 km, enough to surpass even the Model X Plaid, with 536, however, the company’s new statement promises to go further.

Lucid’s Electric SUV May Hit the Market for R$ 540,000

The company announced in July that its new vehicle will also have fast charging capacity of up to 300 kW, enough to recover 480 km of range in just 20 minutes. Reservations for the Gravity are expected to begin in 2023 for buyers from Canada and the USA.

The final price has not been disclosed by the manufacturer, but the estimate is a value above US$ 100,000, equivalent to R$ 540,000 in direct conversion, just like its direct competitor. The electric SUV will begin production only in 2024, with no defined delivery date.

It is worth noting that Project Gravity was announced in 2020 still as a concept car. At the time, Jenkins commented that the company’s goal was to find the perfect balance between space and cargo capacity without affecting the model’s speed.
