The idea of living on a cruise ship is no longer a novelty for the super-rich, but Crescent Seas, the new company from former Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings president Russell Galbut, has elevated this concept to a new level. The company is offering permanent floating homes in a fleet of residential cruise ships, with the first voyage scheduled for December 2026.
The first ship in the fleet, a refurbished version of the Regent Seven Seas Navigator, will feature 210 private residences and will be the starting point of a continuous journey around the world. The model appeals to high-net-worth buyers willing to pay between € 570,000 and € 8.8 million for one of the residential units.
Floating Homes With Global Address
Residents of Crescent Seas will live in a permanent luxury environment, with access to Michelin-standard restaurants, wellness centers, coworking spaces with Starlink, cooking classes, white-gloved butlers, and a service described as “6 stars.” In addition to the cost of the residence, each resident will need to purchase around € 30,000 in annual credits for food and drinks on board.

The global journey of the first ship will include four-day stops in locations like Seychelles, Singapore, Iceland, and Barcelona, with land excursions designed for cultural immersion. The idea is for residents not only to visit the destinations but to immerse themselves in the local experience.
So far, Crescent Seas has confirmed three vessels: the Navigator, the Insignia (former ship of Oceania Cruises, with a relaunch planned for 2027), and a new ship named The Ocean, which is expected to be completed by 2032. Two more ships are planned for 2028 and 2029.
Between Yacht, Resort, and Condo
The concept of residential cruise ships is not exclusive to Crescent Seas. Similar projects like The World and the Odyssey from Ville Vie are already operating with models that combine continuous travel and long-term living.
However, Crescent Seas’ differentiator lies in its proposal for permanent ownership and private living on board, while also offering a structure comparable to ultra-luxury resorts. The company’s president, Marisa Galbut, defines the experience as “traveling the world without leaving the comfort of your home.”
Luxury At Sea And Beyond
The market for floating homes reflects a growing trend among the ultra-wealthy to seek alternatives to traditional housing. The proposal of living on a ship is accompanied by other bold initiatives, such as private islands in the Maldives, seafaring mansions, and even space tourism.
Companies like Virgin Galactic, Blue Origin, and SpaceX are leading this new frontier. While Space Perspective already offers reservations for stratospheric balloon flights at around € 120,000, SpaceX plans missions to Mars.

Despite the high prices, the demand for residential units on board is real. Typical buyers are entrepreneurs, investors, and executives who wish to combine the comfort of luxury living with geographical freedom and continuous access to international experiences.
