The traditional Mega Da Virada, which sparks the imagination of millions of Brazilians every year, could reach an unprecedented milestone in 2025: paying, for the first time, a prize exceeding R$ 1 billion.

The change comes due to a new rule defined by the Ministry of Finance, which altered the way the collected amounts are distributed.

Previously, only 62% of the amount allocated for prizes was directed to those who correctly guessed the six numbers, known as “cena.”

Now, this percentage has significantly increased to 90%, concentrating almost the entire prize pool on the main prize.

The decision reduces to 5% the share allocated to those who guess five numbers and 5% to those who guess four numbers.

Billion-Dollar Bet And Record Revenue

With the change, industry experts expect a significant increase in both the number of bets and the overall revenue of the draw.

The Mega Da Virada, held every year on the last day of December, is already the largest lottery event in the country, with millions of Brazilians trying to turn the turning of the calendar into a life-changing moment.

Expectations are that the new rule will pressure the Caixa Econômica Federal to present more robust results, as the main prize will become even more attractive.

The increase in the amount allocated to winners is expected to boost participation from bettors, enlarging the total collected and strengthening the contest’s relevance on the national calendar.

Rules Apply To Special Contests

The Ministry of Finance’s decision is not limited to the Mega Da Virada. The new distribution applies to all special contests promoted by Caixa.

However, the most significant impact will be felt in this drawing, which traditionally concentrates the highest number of bets and the greatest revenue of the year.

With the billion-dollar prize getting closer, the dream of Brazilians to become millionaires — or, in this case, billionaires — overnight also grows.

The 2025 edition of the Mega Da Virada promises to go down in history as the most awaited of all time.
