Agriculture Leads Job Growth From January to July 2020 Followed by the Construction Sector, Which Also Saw Job Increases
According to studies conducted by the Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock of Brazil (CNA) based on data from the General Registry of Employed and Unemployed (Caged), released by the Ministry of Economy’s Labor Secretariat, agriculture continues to lead the generation of new jobs in 2020. According to the survey, the sector was responsible for opening more than 86,200 job vacancies just in the period from January to July.

Regionally, the data shows highlights in job generation in agriculture in July this year for the states of São Paulo (+10,632 jobs), Minas Gerais (+2,136 jobs), Mato Grosso (+1,893), and Bahia (+1,692 jobs).

Agriculture continued to lead the generation of new job vacancies in 2020 after being the only sector to open jobs in the first half of the year, with 62,663 in the total for the first six months.
In July alone, this sector opened another 23,000 job vacancies. Among the main segments generating jobs during this period are temporary crops, permanent crops, horticulture, cattle farming, planted forests, poultry farming, and swine farming, among others.
The construction sector came in second place in the study, also showing an increase in jobs, totaling 8,742 vacancies between January and July, nearly 10 times less than that achieved by agriculture. Check the technical report that addresses the full study by clicking here.
Agriculture consists of a set of primary activities, being directly associated with the cultivation of plants (agriculture) and the raising of animals (livestock) for human consumption or for providing raw materials in the manufacture of clothing, medicines, biofuels, beauty products, among others.
