SK hynix is building an advanced packaging factory for HBM memory in West Lafayette, Indiana, components used in artificial intelligence systems.
The project exceeds $4 billion in investments and is expected to have its cleanroom completed by October 2028, establishing the company’s first production base in the United States dedicated to AI memory.
Construction began in March and is being managed by HanmiGlobal, which has been involved in the project since August 2024, prior to the construction phase. The company will oversee the project through to the cleanroom delivery.

Factory Requires Strict Construction Control

The cleanroom needs to be integrated with production equipment and systems responsible for power supply, industrial gases, and internal environmental control.
In this context, HanmiGlobal tracks engineering stages, costs, and project progress. The work also involves risk prevention and oversight of safety and quality conditions during execution.
The company also facilitates collaboration between teams contracted in the U.S. and Korean partners involved in the project.
Project Connects SK hynix to the American AI Market
The Indiana factory expands SK hynix’s production presence in the U.S. during a time of growth in infrastructure related to artificial intelligence.
The company held a ceremony on August 27 related to the project at the Holloway Gymnasium at Purdue University, West Lafayette.
The unit will be dedicated to the advanced processing of HBM, technology aimed at applications that demand high data transfer capacity.
Completion of the cleanroom in 2028 will be a central step before the installation and full operation of industrial equipment.
HanmiGlobal Expands Its Role in Industrial Construction in the U.S.
Participation in the project occurs as South Korean companies increase their investments in technological facilities in the American market.
According to HanmiGlobal, the company is already overseeing over 20 advanced industrial projects in the United States. The portfolio includes projects related to semiconductors and other technology chains.
The differences in licensing, contracting, and construction regulations between the two countries increase the importance of local coordination. In SK hynix’s project, this role will continue until 2028, when the most critical phase of the new HBM memory factory is expected to be completed.
