Get to Know the Gaivota X Radar Better
The agreement between the Brazilian Navy and Embraer brings an important contribution to expand both the high technological content of the Navy’s Strategic Programs and the development of the Defense Industrial Base, one of the main objectives of the National Defense Strategy.
The Gaivota X Radar is a 100% Brazilian manufacturing project, operating in the X band, that is, between 8 and 12 GHz, and was developed by the Navy’s Technological Center in São Paulo (CTMSP) and the Funding Agency for Studies and Projects (FINEP).
The Gaivota X of the Brazilian Navy operates in two channels: one for surface tracking, where it sees up to the horizon line, and one for aerial search, where its detection range varies from 40 km (Exocet missile) to 200 km (large aircraft). In addition to its search capability, the Brazilian Navy requires that the radar have surface-to-air missile guidance capability. As it is entirely domestic, the radar features a hardware defined by its software, ensuring total autonomy for the end operator and access to the radar software’s parameters and configurations.
