What Is PROFGEO?
The Professional Master’s Program in Geography is part of the Master’s Program for Qualification of Public Basic Education Teachers (PROEB), organized by CAPES.
The goal is to empower basic education teachers with a solid and updated geographical education, enabling them to act even more effectively in their fields.
According to official information, the course is recognized by CAPES and accredited by the National Education Council, ensuring the title of master in geography education. Additionally, it is offered by public institutions throughout Brazil, which facilitates access for candidates, regardless of their location.
Which Institutions Offer the Spots?
In this notice, the 182 spots are distributed among universities and institutes from various regions of the country. Check the list with the number of spots:
- Federal Institute of Brasília (IFB) – 10 spots;
- Federal Institute of Santa Catarina (IFC) – 10 spots;
- Federal Institute of Minas Gerais (IFMG) – 15 spots;
- Federal Institute of Paraná (IFPR) – 10 spots;
- Federal Institute of Rondônia (IFRO) – 12 spots;
- State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) – 21 spots;
- State University of Roraima (UERR) – 10 spots;
- Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG) – 17 spots;
- Federal University of Grande Dourados (UFGD) – 10 spots;
- Federal University of Pará (UFPA) – 18 spots;
- Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE) – 15 spots;
- Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM) – 12 spots;
- University of Brasília (UnB) – 10 spots;
- Regional University of Cariri (URCA) – 12 spots.
Who Can Apply?
To participate, certain prerequisites must be met. According to the notice, candidates must:
- Have a degree in geography, duly registered with the MEC;
- Be currently working as a lead teacher in public basic education schools.
If there are not enough candidates that meet the second criterion, the remaining spots may be filled by other geography teachers, even if they do not work in public schools, limited to 30% of the total spots offered.
Deadline and Application Fees
Interested candidates have until October 18, 2024 to register on the associated institutions’ websites. The application fee is R$ 50.00, but there is an option to request a waiver of this fee until September 29, 2024. It is essential to keep track of the deadline to ensure participation in the selection process.
According to MEC, the selection process will include an objective test and a written assignment, both scheduled to take place in November 2024. The classification will be announced later based on the final score achieved by each candidate.
