Free Course in Media Education with Certificate and 225 Hours Approved by the MEC for Basic Education Teachers; Content Covers Media, Diversity, and Human Rights in EAD Training with Limited Slots and Enrollment Deadline Set for May.

Media education has become an essential component in the training of teachers and educators in Brazil.

The offering of 7,000 slots for the free Media Education course, launched by the Ministry of Education (MEC), is an unmissable opportunity for basic education professionals who wish to enhance their skills in the critical and ethical use of media.

The course, with a workload of 225 hours, is entirely online and is scheduled to begin on June 2, 2025, and end on January 31, 2026.

This course aims to strengthen human rights and promote diversity, in addition to preparing educators to address contemporary media challenges.

With the support of the Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU), the University of Brasília (UnB), and the Social Communication Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic (Secom), this training stands out for its social and educational relevance.

Workload and Topics Covered

The course is offered in the distance learning (EaD) modality, allowing educators from various regions of Brazil to participate without needing to travel.

Throughout the 225 hours of training, participants will have access to educational content and materials translated into multiple languages, ensuring the inclusion of educators who speak different languages.

The program will cover topics such as:

  • Media Education for the Protection of Children and Adolescents, helping educators develop strategies to deal with the impact of media on young audiences.
  • Media Exposure of Educators, considering the impact of teachers’ visibility on social networks and in the media.
  • Discussions on Racism, Aporophobia, and Climate Change, empowering participants to address relevant topics for today’s society in their pedagogical practices.

These topics are vital for strengthening a more inclusive and aware educational environment of the challenges of the digital age.

The training of these professionals is essential to ensure that education in Brazil keeps pace with ongoing social and technological transformations.

Target Audience and Prerequisites

7,560 slots are available for the Media Education course, distributed as follows:

  • 5,400 slots for active teachers in basic education (teachers from public and private elementary and secondary education).
  • 2,160 slots for other education or related professionals, such as pedagogical coordinators, educational advisers, and educators in related fields.

The requirements to participate are simple but essential to ensure that the course is taken full advantage of.

Interested individuals must be graduates or have ties to educational institutions. Additionally, it is necessary to have at least 8 hours per week available for course activities, have internet access, and devices to attend the virtual classes.

Enrollment will be open until May 12, 2025, and selected candidates will be notified by e-mail with all necessary instructions to confirm enrollment and access the course content.

A Look at Human Rights and Diversity

This MEC training is part of the Human Rights and Diversity Education Program of UFU, aiming to encourage critical reflection on social and cultural issues.

In the previous edition of the program, more than 5,400 educators from across Brazil were certified, and the expectation is that the number of participants will significantly increase in this new version.

The course not only offers theoretical training but also provides support materials that ensure continuity of learning, with lifetime access to pedagogical resources.

This unique aspect makes the course a one-of-a-kind opportunity for educators seeking to continuously enhance their professional practice in an integrated manner with the current social context.

Why is This Training at MEC Important?

In an increasingly digital world, media education becomes crucial for the development of a more critical and aware society.

Well-prepared teachers to handle media can directly impact students’ education, encouraging them to question information and develop a critical perspective toward the various narratives presented by the media.

Moreover, the training contributes to the promotion of a more inclusive educational environment that respects human rights and diversity.

By addressing issues such as racism, climate change, and aporophobia, the course seeks to raise educators’ awareness of urgent and relevant issues, preparing them to act more humanely in their pedagogical practices.

Enrollment and Selection Process

The enrollment process will be conducted online, through the UFU website, the institution responsible for coordinating the course.

Interested individuals must access the available link and fill out the enrollment form.

The selection process will be based on the established prerequisites, and approved candidates will receive an e-mail with instructions to confirm their enrollment.

In case of questions, MEC and UFU provide a communication channel for candidates via the email secretariacdhd@proex.ufu.br.

Approved participants will have access to support materials throughout the training, with certification granted at the end of the course.
