New Distribution Center of Mercado Livre in Jacareí Reinforces The Logistical Expansion of The Company in Brazil, Mobilizes Expectation of Jobs in The Interior of São Paulo and Inserts The City into an Increasingly Strategic Dispute for Operational Infrastructure.

Mercado Livre is preparing to install a new distribution center in Jacareí, in the interior of São Paulo, in a project estimated at R$ 500 million and with the potential to create about 5,000 direct and indirect jobs.

The unit will be located in the Jardim Esperança neighborhood, in a total area of 300,000 square meters, with 140,000 square meters of constructed area, according to information released by the City Hall of Jacareí.

The municipal administration reported that the land is already undergoing earthworks.

The official forecast is that the construction will be completed in 2027, when the logistics center will be able to start its operational activities.

This initiative is part of the strategy to expand the company’s logistical infrastructure in Brazil.

In recent years, Mercado Livre has been expanding distribution centers and support points across the country to meet the growth of e-commerce and reduce delivery times in different regions.

New Logistics Center of Mercado Livre in Jacareí

The enterprise will be built in the Jardim Esperança neighborhood, an area located near the Presidente Dutra and Carvalho Pinto highways.

According to the city hall, the proximity to these road corridors was considered relevant for the choice of location, as both roads link important industrial and consumer hubs in the state of São Paulo.

Jacareí is located in the Vale do Paraíba, an area situated between the state capital and Rio de Janeiro.

Data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics indicate that the municipality has an estimated population of about 250,000 inhabitants, placing it among the medium-sized cities in the interior of São Paulo.

The city hall also reported that negotiations for the installation of the enterprise began in 2025.

The project announcement came after urban adjustments related to the city’s Master Plan, which was recently updated.

Economic Impact and Job Creation in Jacareí

The projection released by the municipal government points to up to 5,000 direct and indirect jobs linked to the enterprise.

This total includes positions related to the operation of the logistics center and vacancies associated with outsourced services and activities that typically arise in the vicinity of projects of this nature.

So far, no details regarding the hiring schedule, number of vacancies per position, or dates for selection processes have been released.

Additional information about recruitment is expected to be disclosed in later phases of the project, according to the city hall.

During the construction phase, logistics enterprises of this size typically mobilize engineering companies, material suppliers, and construction workers.

After the completion of the works, the operation is likely to require transportation, maintenance, and logistics support services.

Logistics and regional development experts often point out that distribution centers can change the economic dynamics of nearby areas, especially in municipalities located in strategic road corridors.

Nevertheless, the actual impacts depend on the pace of project implementation and the operational structure adopted by the company.

Expansion of Mercado Livre in Brazil

The launch of the unit in Jacareí comes at a time of expansion for Mercado Livre’s operations in the country.

Brazil is currently the company’s main market in Latin America.

In 2025, the company announced an investment of R$ 34 billion in the country, aimed at areas such as logistics, technology, marketing, financial services, and expanding the workforce.

At the time, the plan also anticipated the creation of 14,000 jobs throughout that year.

The growth of logistical infrastructure accompanies the evolution of e-commerce in Brazil.

In recent years, major marketplaces have started investing in distribution centers and their own transport networks to increase delivery capacity.

Ranking of The Largest Marketplaces in Brazil

A survey by the Retail Think Tank Institute (IRTT), released in 2025, indicates that Mercado Livre leads among marketplaces operating in Brazil in online sales volume.

According to the study, the company recorded estimated digital GMV of R$ 138.9 billion in 2024.

The GMV indicator, an acronym for “gross merchandise volume,” represents the total value of goods sold within a platform.

In second place is Magazine Luiza, with R$ 46.125 billion in estimated sales.

Shopee ranks third, with approximately R$ 40 billion during the same period.

The survey also includes other relevant platforms in the Brazilian market.

The Amazon appears with approximately R$ 39 billion in GMV, while Grupo Casas Bahia registers about R$ 16.6 billion.

According to the Retail Think Tank Institute, the expansion of marketplaces in the country is associated with the growth of e-commerce and the consolidation of platforms that bring together independent sellers and large retailers in the same digital environment.

What Has Been Released About The Project

The confirmed information so far indicates the estimated investment amount, the total area of the land, the expected construction area, and the expectation of generating jobs.

The location in the Jardim Esperança neighborhood and the anticipated completion of the works in 2027 are also confirmed.

Details about the operational capacity of the unit, daily order volume, or hiring schedule have not yet been publicly disclosed.

As the project advances through the initial stages of land preparation, the establishment of the new distribution center is expected to integrate Jacareí into the company’s logistics network in the country.
