My Digital SUS Begins to Release Appointment Scheduling via Mobile, Reducing Lines at Health Facilities and Providing More Agility to Service.

Brazilian public health has always faced a recurring problem: long lines at health facilities, difficulty scheduling appointments, and bureaucracy in arranging examinations. However, in 2025, a new step begins to change this reality. My Digital SUS, the updated version of the old Conecte SUS, already allows patients from various Brazilian cities to schedule appointments via mobile, without having to face long waits and without leaving home.

The feature is not yet available throughout the country, but it is part of an expansion plan from the Ministry of Health that promises to transform the relationship between citizens and the public health system. The proposal is clear: reduce lines, optimize service, and provide more transparency in access to health information.

How Appointment Scheduling via Mobile Works

With the new feature of My Digital SUS, the patient can access the app, choose the reference health unit, and check the available times for medical appointments.

The process is similar to that of private clinic or health plan apps: just select the day, the time, and confirm the appointment. In some municipalities, the system already sends automatic reminders to avoid no-shows, a chronic problem in the public system that leads to wasted time and resources.

Additionally, there is integration with the patient’s history. This means that the doctor at the health unit can access information from the electronic medical record, vaccinations received, previous exams, and even previous prescriptions.

Where the Service is Already Available

According to the Ministry of Health, My Digital SUS has already started operating in a pilot phase in capitals such as Brasília, Recife, Curitiba, and Belo Horizonte, as well as in some medium-sized municipalities that quickly adopted the system.

The goal is to expand integration to all units using the unified electronic medical record by the end of 2026. This will depend on the adherence of states and municipalities, which need to adapt their local systems to the SUS standard.

The Direct Impact on Patients

The main change is the elimination of the physical line to schedule appointments. In many cities, it is still common for patients to spend hours waiting at health facilities just to get an appointment.

With digitalization:

  • Appointments can be made 24 hours a day directly on the mobile.
  • The patient receives immediate confirmation, without needing to wait for in-person service.
  • In some municipalities, it is possible to reschedule appointments via the app in case of unforeseen events.
  • The waiting time at units tends to decrease, as the scheduling flow is more organized.

What Changes for Healthcare Professionals

Not only the patients benefit. For healthcare professionals, the new system reduces administrative burden and allows for more efficient schedule management.

Doctors and nurses can anticipate the number of scheduled appointments, optimize hours, and reduce gaps in the schedule. The system also generates reports that assist in decision-making to improve the distribution of professionals among the units.

Digitalization as an Irreversible Trend

My Digital SUS is just one of the fronts of public health transformation. In recent years, the pandemic has accelerated the adoption of digital services, such as electronic medical records, vaccination certificates, and online access to exams.

Now, scheduling appointments via mobile adds to this ecosystem, bringing SUS closer to models already established in developed countries.

What to Expect in the Coming Years

According to the Ministry of Health, by 2027 all municipalities should have at least one level of integration with the national system. The goal is for mobile appointment scheduling to become the rule and not the exception.

In addition, there are plans to include new services in My Digital SUS, such as:

  • Scheduling of laboratory and imaging exams.
  • Requesting prescription renewals for chronic patients.
  • Real-time tracking of queues for medical specialties.
  • Teleconsultations in specific cases, such as monitoring chronic diseases.

The ability to schedule appointments via My Digital SUS represents a milestone in the modernization of the public health system in Brazil.

Despite the challenges, the trend is for the resource to expand rapidly, bringing more comfort to the patient and more efficiency to public management.

Whereas scheduling an appointment at SUS used to mean getting up early to stand in lines, it is now becoming as simple as using a transportation app. An important step towards a SUS that is more accessible, transparent, and connected to the digital reality of Brazilians.
