Sino-British Brand Bets on SUVs and Electric Sports Car to Compete with BYD, GWM, and GAC

After months of anticipation, MG Motor is about to debut in the Brazilian market. With a strong presence in Europe and Asia, the Sino-British automaker has officially registered three 100% electric vehicles in the Brazilian Vehicle Labeling Program (PBEV) from Inmetro.

The new models include the MG4 hatchback, the medium SUV S5, and the Cyberster sports convertible. All are expected to launch by 2025.

MG4 Arrives with Optional 4×4 Traction and Two Versions

The MG4 model, already circulating in international markets, will be offered in Brazil in two main configurations: Comfort and Luxury.

Additionally, a version with all-wheel drive will be available. This expands options for consumers looking for performance alongside efficiency.

According to Inmetro data published in July 2025, all variants will feature a lithium iron phosphate battery with a capacity of 64 kWh.

The range will be 364 km for the simple traction version and 279 km with 4×4 traction, according to the PBEV table.

Abroad, MG equips the MG4 with a 163 horsepower motor. However, the brand has not yet officially confirmed this data for Brazil.

The vehicle has recently launched its new generation, with expanded dimensions. It now measures 4.39 meters in length, 1.84 m in width, 1.55 m in height, and 2.75 m in wheelbase.

Compared to the previous version, this represents an increase in interior space. There was also a weight reduction to about 1,485 kg, improving energy efficiency.

Visually, the MG4 features a bold design. The pointed front includes LED headlights and a bumper with a lower air intake.

On the sides, the conventional door handles stand out. They contrast with the current trend of flush door handles.

The rear showcases lights connected by an LED strip, which runs across the entire trunk lid.

SUV S5 Will Have Similar Size to Compass and Range of 351 km

The second model confirmed by MG for Brazil is the SUV S5. It is expected to compete with the BYD Yuan Plus and Jeep Compass.

According to records updated in July 2025, the S5 will have Comfort and Luxury versions. All versions will come with a 62 kWh battery and front-wheel drive.

Both versions will have a range of 351 km according to Inmetro standards.

The SUV measures 4.48 meters in length, 1.85 m in width, 1.62 m in height, and 2.73 m in wheelbase.

The trunk will offer approximately 460 liters, enhancing the model’s family appeal.

In China, the S5 is equipped with a 170-horsepower electric motor and 25.5 kgfm of torque. MG has not yet confirmed if these numbers will remain here.

The model has already been spotted testing in Brazil. This signals that its launch is imminent.

Cyberster Bets on Sporty Design and Scissor Doors

The boldest highlight of MG’s portfolio will be the Cyberster. It is a sporty convertible with an aggressive design and a futuristic feel.

The manufacturer showcased the model as a concept for the first time in 2021, launched it commercially in 2023, and registered it in Brazil in July 2025.

It will have a single configuration: 77 kWh battery, 342 km range, and all-wheel drive.

Power data has not yet been disclosed for Brazil, but the manufacturer already offers versions in China with 314 hp, 340 hp, and impressive 544 hp.

The top-of-the-line version accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds. It reaches a top speed of 200 km/h.

These figures place the Cyberster in the elite of electric sports cars.

Regarding dimensions, the Cyberster measures 4.53 meters in length, 1.91 m in width, 1.32 m in height, and has a wheelbase of 2.69 m.

The famous vertically opening doors in scissor style enhance the futuristic look. They help solidify the model’s premium image.

MG Motor Follows in the Footsteps of Giants Like BYD and GWM

The arrival of MG in Brazil follows the recent movement of Asian manufacturers. These companies have heavily invested in the national electric vehicle market.

Brands like BYD, GWM, and GAC have already established a presence in the country. They have factories, distribution centers, and an extensive network of dealerships.

MG, based in the United Kingdom and owned by Chinese SAIC Motor, bets on the combination of European design, Asian technology, and competitive prices.

Its presence in the PBEV table indicates that the models have already been homologated. This shows that they are close to starting sales.

Expectations for Launches Still in 2025

With the technical homologation already published, the market believes that MG’s first models will be sold in the second half of 2025.
Consequently, automotive industry experts indicate that the advancement of Chinese brands in Brazil has been accelerated due to strong demand for electric vehicles.
Additionally, the country has a rapidly growing charging infrastructure, further boosting interest in new manufacturers.
Meanwhile, Brazil’s strategic repositioning as a logistics hub for Latin America has attracted investments, thus favoring the arrival of new automakers.
In this way, MG arrives at a timely moment, bringing a varied portfolio that serves everything from urban consumers to those more enthusiastic about performance.

Intense Competition Should Benefit the Brazilian Consumer

With MG’s entry, moreover, the electric vehicle segment gains new options, meaning that different price ranges and categories will be served.
Consequently, competition with BYD Dolphin, Yuan Plus, GAC Aion Y Plus, and other models sold in Brazil should bring better commercial conditions.
Moreover, there will be new embedded technologies, and at the same time, a consistent advancement in charging infrastructure across the country.
Thus, all indications are that the Brazilian automotive market will enter a new phase of electric expansion, marked by diversity, innovation, and more accessible prices.
Just as is happening in countries like China and Norway, this movement is becoming increasingly evident in Brazil.

Will MG Be Able to Win Over Brazilians and Accelerate the Transition to 100% Electric Mobility?
