Minas Advances with Clean Energy, Sustainable Production, and Ambitious Climate Goals
Since June 2025, Minas Gerais has established itself as a national leader in solar energy generation. The state accounts for 18.4% of Brazil’s solar energy production, according to data from the Brazilian Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy.
This generation avoids the emission of approximately 394 thousand tons of greenhouse gases per year. In addition, the Arinos Solar Park was recently inaugurated with an installed capacity of 432 MWp and over 720 thousand solar panels.
This park is capable of supplying around 70 thousand households. The total investment was R$690 million, with support from the federal government, reinforcing the environmental and economic impact of the initiative.

Energy Transition with Goals for 2050
On June 9, 2025, the state government presented bold environmental goals. The state secretary for the Environment, Marília Melo, announced the objective of increasing the renewable energy base by 60% by 2050.
Among the strategies adopted is the electrification of the public fleet and the encouragement of clean sources for electric vehicles.
These actions are connected to the commitment to the international Race to Zero campaign, which aims for carbon neutrality by mid-century.
The plan has the support of the State Foundation for the Environment and the Minas Energy and Climate Change Forum.
Sustainability with Inclusion and Transparency
In addition to technological advancements, the state promotes actions aimed at social inclusion. Secretary Marília Melo emphasized that adapting to climate change should also generate concrete benefits for the most vulnerable communities.
Transparency with the population increases trust in environmental projects.
The state also conducts strict monitoring of air quality. Currently, Minas’ environmental indicators are comparable to those recorded in São Paulo city.
Sustainable Coffee in the Minas Cerrado
Minas Gerais also stands out in sustainable coffee production, with a special focus on the Cerrado Mineiro region. The cultivation of arabica coffee is conducted with practices that preserve the environment and ensure productivity.
Since 2025, the Cerrado das Águas Consortium has been leading actions in this regard, with support from the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) and the International Institute of Education of Brazil (IEB).
The restoration of riparian forests is essential for maintaining water balance and the quality of the beans. The model ensures a more resilient future for regional coffee production.
Integrated Environmental Policies Propel Minas
Minas Gerais, therefore, consolidates its position as an environmental reference through integrated actions and, moreover, projects based on solid scientific foundations. The state, in turn, advances in public policies that simultaneously combine economic development and sustainability.
With a focus on innovation and, above all, long-term planning, Minas stands out as one of the Brazilian states most committed to combating climate change.
Furthermore, the results already achieved consequently reinforce the region’s prominence in the country’s energy and environmental scenario.
