Researchers from USP and Inpe are raising an alert about an invisible crisis under the Brazilian Cerrado: climate models indicate that more intense rains and longer droughts could reduce soil infiltration, accelerate runoff, weaken rivers in the dry season, and drop groundwater recharge by up to 666 millimeters per year before 2100.
