Vale's objective, with the new hires of Schneider Electric and Aveva, is to optimize the mining company's safety and production process

Vale has a plan to integrate, centralize and remotely monitor operations at its units in Mariana and Itabira, in the state of Minas Gerais. To meet the mining company's demand, Schneider Electric, a world leader in digital transformation, energy management and automation, and Aveva, also a world leader in industrial software, joined forces in operations. The mining company Vale's main iron ore producers are the Mariana and Itabira complexes, where 75% of the mining company's production in the state is carried out.

The mining company Vale declared that this digitization is of paramount importance, not only to improve the remote control of the operations of its units, but also to enable efficiency and sustainability in mining. The mining company also informed that the purpose of this partnership is to unify operations in different locations and upgrade the old system to a new one that has the capacity to control the various technologies that operate in each of the facilities.

Schneider Electric provided EcoStruxure™ Asset Link, together with AVEVA™ System Platform and Schneider Modicon M580, with the aim of providing visibility and unifying operations for the mining company Vale. This technology makes it possible for data to be directly integrated into the system, allowing Vale managers to have granular insights without the need for manual and isolated action.

By joining this data, it becomes possible to create a master operations center and manage everything remotely, that is, fewer people will need to be in the field, which will provide a significant increase in the safety of the mining company Vale.

Vale's senior automation leader, Paulo Henrique Fontes Coura, said that Vale is constantly seeking to improve the level of safety, efficiency and sustainability not only for the present moment, but also for the future. In addition, he also stated that Schneider Electric and Aveva “have become an integral part of this journey”, because in addition to offering just the software, the companies also offer a complete end-to-end and personalized service, which helps to optimize every step such as training, support and advisory services throughout the process.
