According to the statement, the factory is expected to begin production by the end of this year, in order to accelerate the company’s project.
“Due to the positive results from promising discussions with the public sector, a pilot hydrometallurgy facility will be created just a few months later,” reported Mercedes-Benz.
It is now investing in pioneering efforts in Europe. This is the first plant on the continent to adopt the battery recycling initiative to support environmental commitment.
Besides the project for the new recycling plant, Mercedes-Benz announced that it is making multimillion-dollar investments in a plan to build a CO2-neutral power plant, funded by the German Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection.
Thus, the new battery recycling plant will be completely free of carbon emissions in its activities.
Company Aims To Cover All Stages Of Battery Recycling In Its New Plant Over The Next Few Years
For the coming years, the goal of Mercedes-Benz with the new plant project in Germany is to make it even more efficient in its initial objective. Thus, the automotive company intends to develop all stages of battery recycling at the plant.
The goal is to carry out everything from dismantling at the module level, through crushing and drying, to the processing of raw materials for battery manufacturing.
According to the company, this entire process allows for a “true circular economy of the raw materials for battery manufacturing.”
The multinational’s projection for its new plant is that it will have an annual capacity of 2,500 tons during the first years of operation. However, it highlighted that, in the medium to long term, these numbers will be expanded according to the company’s needs.
Mercedes-Benz is now proceeding with the investments for the construction project of the new battery recycling plant in Germany.
