Mitsubishi Grandis 2026 Returns As A Hybrid SUV With Up To 7 Seats, Efficient Engine, Vertical Dashboard And Urban Consumption Below 5 L/100 Km. Launch Confirmed In Europe.

Mitsubishi is ready to bring back an iconic name from the past with a completely new proposal. The Grandis 2026 will cease to be a minivan and return to the European market as a hybrid SUV, with up to 7 seats, a modern platform and a focus on energy efficiency. The model is expected to be manufactured in Europe in partnership with Renault and Nissan, as part of the global alliance between the brands.

This new generation has a confirmed launch for 2026 and marks the return of a name that has been out of circulation for over a decade. The goal now is clear: to win over families and fleet operators looking for interior space, comfort, and low fuel consumption—all without sacrificing a modern look and state-of-the-art embedded technologies.

Mitsubishi Grandis Returns In 2026 As An SUV With Robust Appearance And Technological Interior

The old rounded look of the Grandis is in the past. The new Mitsubishi Grandis 2026 will take on the proportions and design typical of a compact-medium SUV, with a raised body, pronounced creases, and vertically styled LED headlights.

The model is expected to share a platform with the new Renault Espace and the Nissan X-Trail, which guarantees a solid foundation for electrification.

At the front, the highlight will be the grille with a dark finish, sharp LED headlights, and a flatter hood. The rear will feature “Y”-shaped taillights and a sporty bumper. The result is a look much closer to an urban SUV than the old minivan from the 2000s.

Inside, the model impresses: the dashboard will be entirely digital, featuring a vertical screen in the style of Tesla or Volvo, along with complete connectivity with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and an operating system with integrated Google. The elevated center console reinforces the sense of sophistication and separation between the front occupants.

Hybrid SUV Grandis 2026 Will Have Versions With Up To 7 Seats And Abundant Space

The new 2026 hybrid Grandis will be offered in 5 and 7-seat configurations, with independent and individually foldable seats. The model will have a generous wheelbase and a body approximately 4.70 meters long—enough to ensure comfortable space for up to seven adults.

One of the main advantages will be the flat floor and excellent interior utilization, thanks to the battery installed under the floor. This will allow Mitsubishi to offer one of the largest trunks in the category even in the seven-seat version.

The middle seat will be sliding and have tilt adjustment, while the third row will be electrically foldable in some versions. The promise is to deliver versatility for families, rideshare drivers, and even corporate use.

Light Hybrid And Full Hybrid Engines Will Be Offered In The New Grandis

The new Mitsubishi SUV will feature at least two electrified engine options. The entry-level version will be equipped with a 1.3 Turbo Mild Hybrid (MHEV) engine, delivering about 140 hp and low urban consumption.

The more sophisticated version will bring a Full Hybrid (HEV) system based on a naturally aspirated 1.8 engine with two electric motors—a system similar to what already equips models like the Renault Austral E-Tech. This configuration will have about 200 hp combined, focusing on efficiency and comfort in urban driving.

According to preliminary information, the highlight will be urban consumption below 5 liters per 100 km, which is equivalent to impressive 20 km/l in European WLTP cycles. This figure would position the Grandis 2026 as one of the most economical SUVs in the segment.

Mitsubishi Grandis 2026 Will Be Manufactured In Europe With A Focus On Western Markets

Unlike other models from the brand aimed at Southeast Asia, the new Mitsubishi Grandis 2026 will be produced in Europe, specifically at Renault’s manufacturing unit in Douai, France. This strategy aims to serve markets such as Germany, France, Spain, Italy, and the United Kingdom with local production, avoiding import tariffs and increasing competitiveness.

Brazil, at least initially, is not among the confirmed markets for the model. However, Mitsubishi is already studying bringing the SUV to South America through HPE Automotores, which represents the brand in Brazil, should the model have good acceptance in the European continent.

Mitsubishi Wants To Conquer The Family SUV Market With A Focus On Efficiency

With the new Grandis Hybrid, Mitsubishi is not looking to compete with compact or entry-level SUVs, but rather with larger family models like the Toyota Corolla Cross, the Honda CR-V Hybrid, and even the Peugeot 5008. The differentiator will be the combination of interior space, reduced consumption, and embedded connectivity.

The brand’s proposal is to offer a hybrid SUV with a competitive price, superior finish, and more interior space than direct competitors. All of this combined with Japanese reliability and urban flexibility with up to seven occupants.

Safety And Semiautonomous Driving Features Will Be Standard On Grandis 2026

Among the confirmed features for the new Grandis 2026, the main advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) will include:

  • Autonomous Emergency Braking With Pedestrian Detection
  • Active Lane Keeping Assist
  • Adaptive Cruise Control With Stop & Go
  • 360° Cameras With Night Vision
  • Blind Spot Alert With Steering Correction

In addition, the vehicle structure will meet the strictest European crash tests, with 5 stars expected in Euro NCAP. The model will be one of the most complete medium SUVs from Mitsubishi in active safety.

Estimated Price For The 2026 Hybrid Grandis And Available Versions

There is no official price list yet, but the initial price estimate for the European market is around €30,000 to €38,000, which would place the new Grandis 2026 Hybrid on par with models like the Renault Espace, Citroën C5 Aircross, and Kia Sorento Hybrid.

The more complete versions with seven seats, full hybrid system, panoramic sunroof, and autonomous assistants are expected to exceed €45,000, which is competitive for the European standard in electrified family SUVs.

Mitsubishi Grandis 2026 Marks The Return Of A Strong Name With A Modern Proposal

By bringing back the Grandis as a seven-seat hybrid SUV, Mitsubishi shows that it is willing to revive iconic names and update them according to new market trends. With abundant interior space, efficient mechanics, embedded technology, and an imposing look, the model is set to capture families and professional drivers in Europe—and, who knows, maybe even in Brazil in the future.

The return of the Grandis is more than just nostalgia: it’s a strategic move by Mitsubishi to reposition itself in the family hybrid SUV segment, where brands like Toyota and GWM have already begun to consolidate.
