When the new generation of the Ford Ranger arrived in Brazil in 2023, it became a game changer in the segment, standing out as a fuel-efficient, powerful, and competitive pickup. However, with the arrival of the sixth generation of the Mitsubishi Triton 2026, the model gained a worthy rival. What Changed in the New Mitsubishi Pickup
Now manufactured locally, the Mitsubishi Triton 2026 is larger, received a more powerful engine, and broke with old design concepts. The engine replacement has benefited the fuel-efficient pickup. Now, the 2.4 turbo diesel engine is bi-turbo, delivering up to 205 hp and 47.9 kgfm, an increase of 15 hp and 4 kgfm compared to the previous generation.
The engine of the most fuel-efficient pickup in Brazil continues to be combined with a six-speed automatic transmission, but with a longer final ratio, which extends all gears and improves the efficiency of the Triton.

This time is the same as the Toyota Hilux, which has 204 hp, but still lags behind the Ford Ranger V6, which accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.4 seconds, thanks to the 250 hp V6 engine and 61.2 kgfm of torque. Meanwhile, the Chevrolet S10, with 207 hp of power, completes this test in 9.3 seconds.

The standout feature of the Mitsubishi Triton 2026 was the evolution in fuel consumption. While the old L200 achieved 8.2 km/l in the city and 11.5 km/l on the highway, the new generation presented significantly better numbers: 11.5 km/l in the city and 14.2 km/l on the highway.
This makes it the most fuel-efficient diesel mid-size pickup in Brazil. In the segment, the Toyota Hilux comes closest in urban consumption, recording 10.2 km/l, while the Ford Ranger 2.0 turbo diesel manages 13.5 km/l on the highway, but with a less powerful engine of 170 hp.
The explanation for this improvement in consumption lies in the combination of several factors. The new electronic management of the 2.4 biturbo engine, the reduction of internal friction in engine components, the new electric steering, and the transmission with a longer ratio contributed to the increased energy efficiency of the pickup.
Price of the New Mitsubishi Triton 2026 and Its Equipment
The new Mitsubishi Triton 2026, in the Katana version, has a starting price of R$ 329,990. This version is the only one in the lineup equipped with a 9-inch multimedia center and 360° cameras, essential for facilitating driving and maneuvers, considering the increased size of the pickup.
Additionally, the new Triton comes equipped with adaptive cruise control, emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and seven airbags, ensuring more safety for passengers.
In the comparison made by Motor1, the Triton trailed behind the Ford Ranger, and the price difference between the models is only R$ 310. This may lead some consumers to opt for the Ranger, which offers a more powerful V6 engine and a competitive equipment package in the same price range.
