MODEC Announces A Carbon Capture Project In FPSOs, Reinforcing Its Commitment To Sustainability. Learn How This Initiative Can Contribute To Emission Reduction In The Offshore Sector.

MODEC, a Japanese offshore solutions company, signed a Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED) contract with Samsung E&A in February 2025. The goal is to enable a pilot carbon capture project on a floating production, storage, and offloading unit (FPSO). The CycloneCC technology, developed by Carbon Clean, will be integrated into the offshore environment, providing an innovative approach to emission reduction.

Technical Partnership Enables Advancement Of Decarbonization

The partnership between MODEC, Samsung E&A, and Carbon Clean has clear objectives. Carbon Clean, a carbon capture specialist since 2009, will provide technical support for the FEED. Meanwhile, Samsung E&A, with experience in the offshore sector, will optimize the application of CycloneCC in the FPSO. The project aims to develop a viable solution to reduce CO₂ emissions directly in offshore operations, aligning with global environmental standards.

CycloneCC: Efficient Solution For Carbon Capture

The CycloneCC technology, launched in 2021, stands out for its compact and modular design, which reduces space occupation and facilitates implementation. Thus, with up to 50% reduction in physical footprint and 70% in height, the solution can be integrated into FPSOs, enabling CO₂ capture directly on the production unit. Moreover, the project seeks to evaluate the operational feasibility of the technology in maritime conditions.
