Attention, Drivers! The Toll on BR-262 Has Soared! Now, Those Traveling on This Stretch of the Highway Will Pay up to 49% More. And There’s More: Two New Toll Plazas Are Coming, Further Increasing Costs!
Starting on Friday, March 21, 2025, traveling on BR-262, between Uberaba and Betim, will get more expensive.
The toll, which was already considered a significant expense, has been adjusted by up to 49%, which will directly impact the wallets of drivers traveling the Rota do Zebu, a 440 km stretch of this important highway.
The total fare for those traveling from Uberaba to Betim, round trip, will reach R$ 82, representing an increase of about 35%, since previously drivers paid R$ 60.80.

The adjustment was not uniform and varies between 15% and 49%, depending on the toll plaza.
With the new rates, those traveling on BR-262 will encounter four toll plazas along the route.
The charges will be made in the cities of Perdizes (R$ 10.30), Campos Altos (R$ 10), Luz (R$ 10.40), and Florestal (R$ 10.30).
The largest increase was recorded in Florestal, with an adjustment of 49%, raising the toll from R$ 6.90 to R$ 10.30.
For those traveling the entire length of the highway, the toll cost will now be R$ 41, an increase of 34.8% compared to the previous rate.
Additionally, another two toll plazas are expected to be built in Nova Serrana and Araxá, which will further increase the travel costs.
Although the values for these future plazas have not been disclosed, it is estimated that the total toll will reach over R$ 60 when the construction is completed.
These increases have an explanation: the transition in the management of the highway, which was previously under the responsibility of Triunfo Concebra, which managed BR-262 since 2014.
Since October 2024, Way-262, a new company created to take over the concession, has been managing the stretch.
The change in concession was the result of a re-bidding process, after Triunfo Concebra claimed financial difficulties in making the necessary investments, such as widening and improvements to the highway.
Investments and Improvements for BR-262
Despite the impact of the increase, the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT) assures that the new concession will bring benefits to drivers.
The acting general director of ANTT, Guilherme Theo Sampaio, explained that the new toll rates are aligned with the planned investments for the road.
Sampaio highlighted that, previously, the rate did not cover the necessary investments and that now the resources will be directed toward significant improvements.
To minimize the financial impact, ANTT has implemented discount programs.
Drivers using TAG will receive an automatic 5% discount.
Those using the highway daily, such as workers and students, will be able to take advantage of progressive discounts of up to 50%, thus reducing the total toll fee.
Additionally, motorcyclists will continue exempt from paying the toll, which represents significant savings for those using the highway in that category.
The Future of the Highway: More Safety and Fewer Accidents
The concession also brings a package of improvements aimed at transforming the infrastructure of BR-262.
Among the main projects are the duplication of 44.3 kilometers, the implementation of 169 kilometers of additional lanes, and the construction of 17 pedestrian overpasses and 100 bus stops.
There are also plans to build three wildlife crossings and a rest area.
These changes are seen as an important step toward increasing road safety, as BR-262 is considered one of the most dangerous highways in Brazil.
Guilherme Theo Sampaio emphasized the logistic efficiency that modernization will bring, not only for the state of Minas Gerais but also for the national agribusiness, as the region is an important production hub.
The concession contract also provides for an investment of R$ 8.54 billion.
Of this total, R$ 4.39 billion will be allocated for infrastructure works and R$ 4.14 billion for the maintenance and operation of the highway over the 30-year concession.
The expectation is that these investments will help reduce the number of accidents, improving the quality of the road and, consequently, the safety of those traveling on it.
Economic Impact and Job Creation
Another positive point of the new concession is job creation.
Way-262 has already absorbed most of the employees from Triunfo Concebra, and with the planned works, more job opportunities are expected to arise.
The modernization of the highway is also expected to generate a positive economic impact for the municipalities crossed by BR-262, which should benefit from the economic activity generated by the new operations.
It’s worth noting that the modernization process occurs after the exit of Triunfo Concebra, which requested the revocation of the contract in 2020, citing inability to bear the costs of duplication and other obligations.
Of the total 600 kilometers of works planned in the original contract, only 84 kilometers have been delivered to date.
The Ministry of Transport then decided to divide the highway into smaller sections, which enabled the separate concession of the Uberaba-Betim stretch, facilitating the auction held in 2024.
