Seeking Greater Competitiveness and Achieving a Historic Milestone in the Logistics Sector, Multinational Bracell and MRS Logística Built a Railway Modal for the Transport of Pulp Worth R$ 58 Million
In Pederneiras (SP), a railway modal aimed at the transport of pulp was inaugurated. The structure was built in partnership between MRS Logística and the pulp production company Bracell. In total, around R$ 58 million were invested by the logistics company and the multinational, considering the railway branch and the terminal.

Bracell Factory Will Benefit from the Railway Modal for Pulp
The new Bracell factory in Lençóis Paulista (SP) will require a complex logistical operation for the transport of pulp, such as the railway modal made in partnership with MRS Logística. The product will arrive at the terminal in road-rail vehicles, sider type, with an estimated capacity of up to 8 vehicles per hour. The space includes a 9,600 m² warehouse dedicated to receiving, handling, storing, and dispatching the production.
The trains carrying the pulp leave the railway modal in Pederneiras and travel to the Port of Santos, covering more than 500 km by rail. The compositions will operate 24/7 throughout the year. Each train is composed of up to 3 locomotives and 60 wagons, transporting around 113 trucks.

According to Alberto Pagano, the Supply Chain Director of Bracell SP, utilizing the railway modal as the main means of transporting the multinational’s pulp production has brought several benefits to the company.
According to Pagano, this is a model that adheres to the environmental and sustainability standards adopted by Bracell. Intermodal logistics ensures a reduction in the volume of pollutant emissions into the atmosphere during the transportation of production. Furthermore, logistical operations via the railway modal provide greater security for the cargo, predictability, and also create new job and income opportunities both in the region near the factory and at the Port of Santos.
The Railway Modal by Multinational Bracell and MRS Logística is an Important Milestone for the Brazilian Logistics Sector
The intermodal complex operated and built by MRS Logística is an important investment for the Brazilian logistics sector. According to Guilherme Mello, president of MRS, the prime location and all the support the companies have received from the Pederneiras City Hall give the company the confidence that many other businesses and ventures will soon emerge in the region.
Brazil needs more investments in logistics; otherwise, it will not be a competitive country. The Custo-Brasil exists, and if no one acts to achieve efficient multimodality, it will not be possible to compete on a global scale.
A New Model of Wagons was Built Especially for the Transport of Pulp
The project between the multinational Bracell and MRS Logística also involved the creation of a new model of wagons suitable for pulp transport. For this achievement, innovative solutions were presented by Greenbrier Maxion, which, in addition to improvements in the opening and closing format, included reductions in wagon tare weight, increasing the load capacity per wagon and per train, as well as providing better ergonomics in transportation activities, preventing cargo loss from water ingress during the rainy season.
