ExxonMobil Supports the People of Ukraine and Decides to Halt and Cancel Billion-Dollar Investments Related to Oil and Gas in Russia
Multinational ExxonMobil, the largest oil company in the U.S., announced in a relevant fact to the market on March 1, 2022, that it has decided to stop operations at Sakhalin-1 and will not make new investments in Russia. The move by the American oil company aims to support the people of Ukraine and also ensure the safety of individuals, protect the environment, and maintain the integrity of operations.

ExxonMobil operates the Sakhalin-1 project on behalf of an international consortium of Japanese, Indian, and Russian companies. “In response to recent events, we are initiating the process to suspend operations and developing steps to exit the Sakhalin-1 venture”, said the company in the statement.
As the operator of Sakhalin-1, ExxonMobil feels obligated to ensure the safety of individuals, protect the environment, and maintain the integrity of operations. “Our role as an operator goes beyond a capital investment. The process to suspend operations will need to be carefully managed and closely coordinated with co-venturers to ensure it is executed safely. Given the current situation, ExxonMobil will not invest in new developments in Russia”, concludes the note.
