Investment of R$ 2.5 Billion by Automaker Stellantis, in Factory in RJ, Boosts Jobs and Strengthens the Presence of the Brands Citroën, Fiat, Jeep and Peugeot in the Automotive Industry

Stellantis, an automotive conglomerate that includes renowned brands such as Citroën, Fiat, Jeep, and Peugeot, reaffirms its commitment to the state of Rio de Janeiro by announcing a strategic investment of R$ 2.5 billion until 2025 in its factory located in the city of Porto Real. This initiative, resulting from a meeting between Stellantis’ president for South America, Antonio Filosa, and the governor of Rio de Janeiro, Cláudio Castro, brings significant prospects for the job market and the automotive sector in the state.

The choice of Porto Real as the destination for this strategic investment is not coincidental. The Porto Real factory is one of Stellantis’ five units in South America and has proven crucial for the company’s development and sustainable mobility.

Automaker Reinforces Commitment to Rio de Janeiro

Stellantis has been established in Rio de Janeiro for decades and has become a pillar of the local economy. With the brands Citroën, Fiat, Jeep, and Peugeot under its umbrella, the company plays a key role in the state’s automotive industry. The news of the R$ 2.5 billion investment is a clear indication of its ongoing commitment to the region, reinforcing its status as one of the leading employers and drivers of the economy in Rio de Janeiro.

A substantial portion of the investment will be directed towards the development of new products and sustainable technologies. The president of Stellantis for South America, Antonio Filosa, stated that “the Stellantis Automotive Hub in Porto Real is strategic for the future of our company and for the development of sustainable and accessible mobility.” This statement highlights the company’s emphasis on sustainability and the pursuit of more environmentally friendly mobility solutions.

Presentation of the New SUV Citroën C3 Aircross, CMP Platform, and Hybrid Vehicles

During the announcement of the investment, Stellantis also introduced the New SUV Citroën C3 Aircross, a model that will soon begin production in Porto Real. This launch will not only strengthen Citroën’s presence in the market but also create additional job opportunities as the production and commercialization of the vehicle expand.

A significant portion of the allocated resources will be directed towards the CMP platform, which is the basis for the C-Cubed project involving the launch of three new models. The exciting news is that these vehicles will have hybrid capability, adopting Bio-Hybrid technology, representing a significant advancement towards more sustainable and fuel-efficient vehicles. This move may also attract environmentally conscious consumers, further expanding Stellantis’ reach in the market.

Impact on Economy and Employment in Rio de Janeiro

Since 2001, the Stellantis Automotive Hub in Porto Real has received substantial investments, totaling over R$ 7.6 billion in resources aimed at the expansion and modernization of facilities. Furthermore, last year, the factory required approximately R$ 3.3 billion in components and supplies for the production of its vehicle line. It is important to highlight that around 40% of this demand was met by local suppliers, contributing to the economic development not only of Stellantis but also of regional businesses.

The announcement of the R$ 2.5 billion investment in the Porto Real factory reinforces Stellantis’ commitment to Rio de Janeiro and paves the way for a promising future. With the production of hybrid vehicles and a strong emphasis on sustainability, the company is well-positioned to face the challenges and opportunities of the constantly evolving automotive market. As new models are launched and innovation continues to be prioritized, we can expect that Stellantis will maintain its prominent role in the global automotive landscape and in the economy of Rio de Janeiro.
