The Future of the National Energy Transition Market is Already in Neoenergia’s Sights, Which Has Partnered with the Government of Rio Grande do Sul for the Development of Green Hydrogen and Offshore Wind Projects in the State.
Last Wednesday, (08/31), energy giant Neoenergia signed a memorandum of understanding with the Government of the State of Rio Grande do Sul for the feasibility of green hydrogen and offshore wind energy production projects in the region. The state’s area has strong potential for renewable energy utilization, and the company is now aiming at the future market for the Brazilian energy transition with the new ventures under development.
Government of RS Studies New Green Hydrogen and Offshore Wind Projects After Memorandum of Understanding Signed with Neoenergia
Neoenergia is now focusing on the future of the Brazilian energy market and industry trends. It will start to study the development of green hydrogen and offshore wind energy projects in Rio Grande do Sul, following the memorandum of understanding signed with the state government. This document is the fourth of its kind signed by the company, which already has such agreements with the governments of Pernambuco, Ceará, and Rio Grande do Norte.
In addition, the company is already looking for wind energy projects in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, as it has a licensing process underway with the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) for generating 3 gigawatts (GW) of offshore wind energy with the Águas Claras park.

Researchers discover a possible hydrogen deposit of up to 46 million tons beneath an ancient coal basin, and the volume could exceed half of the entire global production.
This is one of the projects to combine offshore wind energy and green hydrogen in the region, given that the company is focused on the port of Rio Grande, which can both facilitate the export of green hydrogen and make use of the new energies for chemical industries.
The memorandum of understanding signed with the southern state government also provides for the creation of a pilot project to initiate green hydrogen production in Rio Grande do Sul. The fuel is considered the future of the Brazilian energy transition, as it efficiently replaces the pollutants used in the transportation segment.
Thus, Neoenergia seeks to not only contribute to the environment but also to expand the national economy over the coming years.
Green Hydrogen and Offshore Wind Are the Markets of the Future, and Neoenergia’s Projects in Rio Grande do Sul Will Take Advantage of the State’s Potential
Neoenergia’s projects under development in the state of Rio Grande do Sul come at a strategic time for the company’s expansion in the national market, as green hydrogen and offshore wind energy are the main highlights in the renewable sector.
“Green hydrogen technologies and offshore wind generation can lead Brazil to global prominence in clean energy, which is part of Neoenergia’s DNA,” says Eduardo Capelastegui, CEO of Neoenergia, highlighting that the company is “anticipating the future market.”
According to the National Energy Plan (PNE 2050), prepared by the Energy Research Company (EPE), regions for offshore wind energy production are the last frontier of resource generation and the future of the national renewable energy market. Moreover, a World Bank study estimates that the potential of this segment in the country could reach 1.2 terawatts.
Thus, Neoenergia is preparing the ground in Rio Grande do Sul, one of the most sought-after states in the country, to initiate its expansion in the energy transition market over the coming years.
